Spurred on by none other than Todd of the Great Northwest and his projects I decided that I needed to install some sort of on-board mount for my Solaire InfraRed Grill. Not having a door that covers my swim ladder presented a problem, but seeing as the ladder in the up position is already a toe stubber and the fact that I have access to my platform from both sides of the cockpit I decided to mount the base plate under where the ladder sits in the folded position.
I ordered a Magma Double Locking Pedestal Mount and started planning. I was able to remove the base plate from my grill and install the Magma base to it. Because there is a support below the swim platrorm, I had to position the mounting holes to go on either side of it. Once the Magma Mount is Attached to the Pedestal it locks into position. In the locked position, the grill was not facing the direction I wanted, so I am going to reposition the locking pin so that the grill faces either the Port or Starboard side of the platform.

Bring on the Kabobs, Fish and Steaks!!!!

Just an update here are recent pictures with the final install.
Has worked out better than I thought.
And cools down in under 15 min to be put into dockbox.

Looks good. I just wished that the pedestal was taller.

I think you'll like it there and also think that since your ladder is already there that makes perfect sense to install the base there.

It looks good. The only inconveniance I see that while the grill is in place no one can and use the ladder to get back on. If it's deployed prior setting the grill it still wouldn't be too safe to be so close to the hot grill. just my .2c

Alex.

Thanks Guys
It is amazing what one can learn on this site!
Now I just have to get a second job to pay for the toys, beer, gas and the Admiral's needs/wants!

Re: Taller Pedestal
The way my grill is set up the base plate slides under it and with the length of the Magma pedestal it is about the same height as the tripod we use on land.

Alex
Most of our grilling will be at the dock.
Our marina just made a new rule of no grilling on the dock itself.
So it is either on the boat or hanging off boat or dock.

All others:
I have a longer pole that threads into the base.

Don't tell the Admiral :smt018

Will post up pictures of the 'stripper pole' next time I am at the boat.
Guys in the warehouse were looking at me strange when I was threading in that 8' tall post painted red! :smt017
Told them it was for fishing......think they believed it?

Admiral has not seen this site yet.
Not very interested in it.
Just her Frozen Cosmos and lying in the sun.

Have I got a surprise for her this season!!!

Ouch!
Just looked at my Signature Picture and one of the antennas is not very straight.
Please don't rat me to Gary. :smt100
I will take a new one on May 1!

Dan,
I only mentioned the part of having inconveniance with use of a ladder, b/c we use the grill a lot when anchored and I wouldn't want to block the water entry/exit point for anyone who wants to splash. Everyone has different boating needs. Your setup might be perfect for your criteria. But, with my new 320 I'm still puzzled about grill installation. I would love to have setup like in Formula PC (34, 37) with build-in electrical grill, but there's just no room. The search goes on.

Now a stripper pole - is a great use of it :)) I can see few of my guests using it, but I'm affraid we'll have to big of a croud build up.

Actually if you look closely at the swim platform, I have another set of brackets on the port side for a 'beach ladder' as we back down on a sand bar and I can attach it there and it is almost a staircase to get on the boat.
That said ...............I love a crowd!

Yeah charge admission dummy:smt101......you gotta pay for fuel somehow.......

Hmmm...admission..that is something to think about.
Wonder if the Blue LED Under Swim Platform Lights I am installing this weekend will add some value to the entertainment.

Oh well $550.00 per month - 6 month season - for a floating condo just south of Chicago is worth it. Dinghy and Wave Runner will get more hours this year.

Now onto the pole.
Music suggestions possibly....?

If you fall off the boat while the grill is installed how are you going to get back on? It does happen.

Read above post. Second ladder off port side.
I did read it. Falling off the boat accidentally while grilling is likely to happen when that ladder isn't on the bracket. Where as one permanently attached can usually be folded down from the water in such an event. I say this only because I've got a new Magma detachable pedestal to install (next week?) and thought about using the same sort of location. Past experience says not to block the ladder...

But it sounds like you've got it covered!

Now, for the stripper pole, wonder how much of a backing plate it'd need?

Seriously, Raise your hand if you've ever fallen off the boat while grilling or know of anyone who has?
Your past experience is different than mine or have even heard of. Mine's under the Ladder too.

In this picture, I'm standing on the dock taking the picture the dock and more than likely a typical mooring.

To me it works great.

I guess the issue is not if you fall off but if someone is having a swim while you are wishing to
grill, like at lunch time etc..bit difficult maybe getting back on board without burning yourself.

Since you need to wait for the magnum to cool down before storing it the kids might get a bit restless..I think you might have snookered yourself (for those who have kids as we know, they just want to be in the water)

Ozzie

well that makes more sense and will be more common than falling in, but this set up is a huge space saver. If I have to ask the kids to come get ready for Lunch or Dinner while I'm grilling, I can live with that and so will they.
