This is the first time we anchored off a beach! This picture is from the sandbar just North of Anclote Island out from New Port Richey, FL. Had a great time, what a beach!

Yea we do it all the time at both 3-Rooker Island and Caladesi Island. We were actually at Caladesi on Saturday and had a great time. The water was beautiful and we spent much of the day there. Can't wait till next weekend, so we can do the same thing.

Yes, and the next weekend, and the next....

We stayed at Calidesi a few weeks ago but took a slip in the Marina for the night. That was really great except we got no sleep because of all the new noises, seams in the cushions, and general excitement.

We want to explore Anclote next, do you have any suggestions for approching and where to anchore at Anclote? We would be coming from the North (Gulf Harbors).

I would anchor on the beach side of anclote or the gulf side. The other place that is alot of fun is three rooker island which is just south of anclote. I'm sure you have seen them. They are the 3 islands/sandbars south of anclote island. What is your boats name?

We watched some big boats coming through the pass between the sandbar and Anclote, so we could get to the gulf side of Anclote that way. We are nervous of the depth. The last time out there it was very low tide and it seemed pretty shallow.

The boats name is "About Time" and you will recognise us as the newbie boat that waits for someone else to come by and then follow them in and watch intensely where they go and how they anchor. :smt001 Please shout out if you see us.

there's a hole on the inside of Anclote, but I forget where. I have heard depths of 4-5 feet, but there's no way I'm trying. Friends with 35 foot Sundancers used to ask me why I wouldn't join them there - I just won't risk it. In fact, the guy in the slip next to me, with a 55 foot Sunseeker sedan told me he'd take me out there and show me where to go - he and his family do it regularly.

I figure they got bigger ones than me (bank accounts, that is).

Ask around, people will know.

Just south of anclote is a channel that leads you out to the gulf. You could go that way and then back to the island. Ylwjacket is right about the depths up there and it can get shallow all around there. I just watch my depths up there real close and gets even worse during low tides.
