Great News! CDC Says Covid On Verge Of Non-epdimic Status!

Answer: Because they have been wearing masks. A large part, medical workers are obviously using PPE. Same with government workers where it's required. Commercial establishments responsible for the rest largely mandated masks for their workers early on and have gradually been applying this policy to patrons as well. Government mask mandates typically applied to public establishment staffs first before expanding to all. Since establishments risk penalties for not enforcing mask laws, such as losing their licenses, enforcement for these workers is better as well.

Studies have shown that essential workers actually have lower infection and death rates than the general public.

They have not been wearing masks, the whole mask debate is a brand new thing that just happened starting in about June. It also seems that your conflating essential workers with healthcare workers. Essential workers were those people who didn’t hide in their house and we’re out working every day, like me and Blue among others.

A quick trip to the local home-improvement center would show in May that few people were wearing masks.

This is the disconnect in my opinion, people who get out and work every day and look around what’s going on in their communities see very few people that are sick and even fewer that are dying they occasionally hear about one or two through the grapevine.

There is another group that sits in their homes in self-imposed quarantine and they watch CNN and MSNBC and think the sky is falling. It is fascinating to me that the fear factor literally corresponds with the amount of time spent watching TV news.

It is very liberating to break the habit of watching TV news from any source, cut way back on the panic porn on social media and Internet media and look at the real world.

I don't think it's a cop out at all. It's just as important to me to protect my neighbor as well as my family. In the case of your coworker, the company is taking proactive steps to protect his/her livelihood, as well as help to protect your safety. What's your beef with that? Are you jealous that they got sick and you didn't?

Your point is well taken about the economy. Those are facts! Do you think the economy is somehow going to be great again if everyone pretends it's nothing to worry about, and carries on as if there is no pandemic? What's going to happen when the hospitals are overwhelmed (Florida is already there) and the doctors are ill, overworked, or give up? And, when people who are ill have to depend on others to feed them and care for them at home... in some cases while they are dying.

If the tiny sacrifice of wearing a mask and keeping a little distance can reduce that impact by even a small amount, why wouldn't you do it? Personal freedom isn't really an answer. "Personal freedom" as an excuse is just another way of saying you don't care about anyone but yourself. "Personal freedom" is the cop out.
Yeah, facts suck.

Look!!!!.... on my way to the boat.... sitting at a bar with a beer.... got to love Ohio...I wonder if it has anything to do with a republican governor?

Who just tested positive :)
Actually, truth is that my friend (who is mask-averse) has been sick since Friday, low grade fever, cough, etc. Just tested positive today. So, I guess you guys think I should tell him it's made up by CNN? Maybe I'll tell him to chew a feen-a-mint and poop out all the bad stuff he's been fed?

You're right- the disconnect is that everyone is doing their own thing, instead of approaching it in a unified manner. Again, I don't think there should be a government mandate, but when people act like it's no big deal and ignore simple tactics, what else is there to do?

In our area, the workers in places like Home Depot have been widely variable in the use of masks until it was mandated to wear one indoors. Not surprisingly, we've been on an uphill curve. The bottom line is that if you don't do something to slow it... then obviously nothing is going to slow it.

Your comments ignore that there is at least a third group somewhere in the middle. We are not afraid to go out. We boat a lot, and even with guests we don't wear masks on the boat. But, we do wear one in Home Depot or the grocery store. And we are getting carryout from our local restaurants occasionally. So, I think we are in neither of your two groups, and in our area, there are more who are acting this way than either of the two ways you outlined.

What’s a feen-a-mint?... I have some Canadian friends that could use a CNN cleansing

What a shock! You actually know a few people that have had Covid. Newsflash! There is a pandemic virus going through the country and nearly 80% of the people will have to deal with it someway or another. We puny humans cannot stop it!

Do you personally know enough people who have been affected or died from Covid that we should have dumped 1/3 of the US GDP?

I sure as the hell don’t!

Interesting:

Boston has another early warning system that might help identify a coronavirus surge before it happens. Greater Boston and a few surrounding communities send sewage to the Deer Island Wastewater Treatment Plant, where the biotech firm Biobot Analytics tests the sewage three times a week for the coronavirus.

“We concentrate the viruses present in the wastewater, then extract their [genetic material],” says Mariana Matus, one of the Cambridge company’s cofounders. “Wastewater is a leading indicator for new COVID-19 cases, with four to 11 days of an early warning.”

If one person out of 50,000 gets sick, Matus says Biobot should be able to detect the coronavirus in the sewage sample. As of the end of the week, the company's data showed no large increases in Boston or nearby communities. If it did, Matus says their service could give health officials time to intervene before an outbreak gets out of hand.

“We don’t need to be going through lockdowns like what we’re experiencing now. There are technologies out there that can help us stay ahead of it.”

There are communities in Indianapolis that are doing similar testing.

This is truly unbelievable, but there it is, in writing from the local news source.

The cases with COVID-19 listed as the primary cause of death had an average of 4.6 contributory factors, and none had fewer than 3 contributory factors.

Then to top it off a roofer struck by lightning that fell from the roof was called a Covid death.

https://alachuachronicle.com/local-covid-19-death-certificates-all-show-multiple-co-morbidities/

The entire article was well worth the read.

We have given the medical community a perverse financial incentive to find Covid deaths.

So you obviously don't care about the people you boat with, cause if you did you would wear a mask. See how stupid that sounds? If you don't want to get it, avoid people who don't wear masks and wash your hands -- it's that simple.

So, it's not just about deaths. There are other impacts.

It's not "one or the other". We can have a good economy and wear masks. You paint it like wearing a mask kills the economy. Actually masks and distance are the things that could help the economy to recover. Stop trying to find ways to disprove the whole thing, and focus on ways to improve the situation. Doing nothing isn't a successful choice!

Feen-a-mint is a chocolate laxative. (if it's still around... )

Outdoor environments with some distance are 1/20 as likely to transfer viruses as indoor spaces.

Per the left, we are not allowed to use logic. That is definitely a foul. LOL

You know, like logic that the masks are not properly fitted and people are breathing around the edges, the masks carry more germs then they stop. That there are no masks studies done out in open public to even have the slightest idea of their efficacy, you know, common sense stuff like that.
