Great Loop, what boat?

I love my 560DB and had thought I could do the loop with it. It certainly is in the plans. We get a lot of loopers come through our area and a number of Marina friends have taken the challenge. I know of at least one 480DB that completed it recently. I think I have to check my clearance with the antennas down. Further to the fuel consumption debate, at minimum speed (7 mph) I'm burning 2 gph per the Cat monitors. I could do trawler speed, but I'd rather not... :)

I've read the captain John site. It is a great read. He comes at the idea from a very pragmatic approach around money and using the least amount to do the loop. From that point a sailboat or single screw trawler wins. The Fleming loses on that point but if I can afford a very well used one for $800K I can afford the gph.

Express cruiser with side doors on each side, wide walkways all around - ahhhh maybe a sabre!

Prestige 500 Fly or 500s. Great space and 4mpg in go slow mode.

The Loop is on our bucket list. Is it strange at my age to be wishing I were OLDER so I could retire and do the loop?

Looks like a typo, isn't it ...blogspot.com?

Here are a few we're considering-

Krogen 42, 44AE, 48
Krogen Express 49, 52
Defever Pilothouse 46, 50
Grand Banks 47EU
Grand Banks Aleutian 53, 55
Fleming 55

Still 6-8 years away but shopping hard now to learn the market.

Wow, all great choices, some more readily available than others. Look at lots of them, set up a comparison spreadsheet, take lots of pictures. With that many to see and choose from you will need to be well organized to make the "best" decision in the end. It is a blast looking too! Given the Krogen express is on the list you may want to add Sabre express (48 or 52 or 54) or GB Eastbays to the list too.

I just discovered the "Nordhavn" 40. So far it appears to be a very well designed boat. I think their 40 may be the only one without the fly bridge but I don't know what the height above water line is. Te fellow who turned me on to these has stated that there are a number of them doing the loop every year.

Edit; Opps, just googled used ones. I kinda think all that rigging would get in the way. http://www.yachtworld.com/boats/2000/Nordhavn-40-2676612/Seattle/WA/United-States#.VEJjOXktDmI :smt021
