I took my fam to Grand Isle yesterday to do some socially distant fishing. We haven't left the house in 2+ weeks. It was time to get out for a few.

The water is high...wicked high for April. It's about where it was last July +/- when it peaked. They have sandbagged all of the electrical boxes and are running small sump pumps to keep the water out.

I just don't see how they keep the power on if we go up another 10". I don't really care about walking through water to get places around the marina. But no AC on the boat in July/August would dramatically change how we use the boat.

Ughh....

We had a similar problem here in Georgia. High water required the local electric company to shut service off to most docks. Except its winter and if your stay in the water, nobody winterizes (except for bilge heaters). Luckily, the temps stayed mild and no freezing occured.

I was luck, they were in the process of moving the transformer to higher ground for my dock and my electric was on the whole time. However, I was prepared to run the generator as necessary to power heaters.

Enduring the winter here in Michigan just to reach sanity come spring is extremely important to my state of mind. The idea that boating may be in jeopardy this year is a scary thought.

Grand Isle built a seawall along the south pier and added pumps. The river level last year flooded the parking lot on the south pier. This year it may be in jeopardy of being covered completely if this keeps up.

Lots of nice sized Perch floating by all the electrical outlets.

Where at in Grand Isle? We just bought 96....Really hoping to use it this year. Especially since we just bought ( a new to us ) boat that we havent been able to see in months and hope get a chance to bring it around from detroit sometime in may. Yeah it's a depressing time for all.

Welcome! There are several owners on the condo side that visit this site. I rent from an owner of multiple slips down in the single digits. This after renting on the inside for several years and getting a little fed up with the substantially increasing slip rates.

The condo side is a really great place to be. I'm really only concerned with the electricity. I think we can keep the boats safe without much stress...plenty of piling, ropes and fenders.

I heard they received approval to raise the road leading into Grand Isle from 131. The road leading to the harbor Island boat launch also received approval to be raised. The boat launch itself will still be under water. Last I saw, water was up to the guard station!

If that is the case then Hall’s marine is pretty much a write off

They were closed most of last year at that location. Their parking lot is dry today. Not sure how that can be with levels higher now than a year ago.
