It's a great unit - typical Garmin user-friendliness and build quality. They are excellent at updates, the PC plotting program is tough to beat. I recommended it for friends this summer, and they're very pleased with it. Processor performance is impressive.
Con: small screen. I've heard people complain about touch-screens when the seas kick up, but I didn't understand the complaints until I used the 740 - it's not easy to see details and it IS easy to hit the wrong part of the screen.

anyone else? any other recommendations? if I'm cruising at night or in fog and the seas kick up I think I'll have other problems to worry about :grin:

I love mine non S model I use separate unit for sounder. Screen plenty big for me, but I don't run split screens.

Hmmmmm. Get a 740 to navigate and my 546s to sound. You may be on to something
