Ok lets hear how people feel about the government handouts and yes lets call them what they are.

Is it ok to take welfare/food stamps if you can work?
Is it ok to accept TARP funds for your bank?
Is it ok for accept the auto industry bailout funds?
Is it ok to take cash for your clunker?
Is it ok to take the $8000 1st time home-buyer credit?

etc.....

Where do you draw the line?

If it's out there, it's OK to take it. The problem is the people who bend and break the rules to get more. I have a friend that owns several rental houses. One of his tenants receives $70,000 / year in government benefits. It's common to claim dependants and collect benefits attached to the dependants just because they live with you, ....on paper of course. She knows how to work the system and stay under the radar.

I personally am so fed up with handouts that go to people that do not need them or to the people who just stay on handouts forever. There are decent people out there that may need a hand now and then and I don't mind that so much but it sickens me to work my ass off all the time and watch my parents who worked their asses off also and got sick before they retired and now they barely scrape by and get no help. They paid their dues for 40+ years. And then you see some that are capable to work and have everything handed to them. Do people on welfare in Mass and NY really need a cell phone that the state pays for?? No wonder I moved from those ****holes!

To each his own, but I am not taking any "handouts" from the gov't. First of all, I have a job (self employed) so I do not qualify for much, we bought our current home in 1992, so we can't get the buyers credit. Oh, and when I wanted to buy a home, I found one I could afford, got a regular mortgage and have made each and every payment. I do have an old work truck that qualified for the clunkers deal, when it dies, I will put a new engine and tranny in and run it another 250k miles (purely just a work truck for hauling debris/lumber) Here's what I think, get off your ass, get a job and contribute. If you can't work, prove you can't and maybe then get some help. (big difference between can't and won't) If you are overweight, unemployed, 18 kids and lazy don't expect sh!t from me.

Yo, don't ruin my tingly feeling for getting cash for clunkers refrigerator dealy.

Some very valid points. I just can seem to understand why when we are so far in debt is the government handing out more money. Everybody says the government should not be handing out money, but then I hear the same people say hey I got $3000+- from the government because it was there. Whats wrong with this picture??? Or is just me???? I had a customer that was so happy that the government is going to start spending all this cash on the national parks. What the ????. Just one more handout??? I thought the stimulus plan was to build the decaying infrastructure???

NO worry, they've put in a recommendation to take away the social security COLA next year. We're saving money hand over fist - and we really don't need those Sr's around anyhow. So what if they have to cut back on food /fuel when it's needed.

(This will allow them to not have those damn death panels the rest of us un-american types were bitching about, won't need them anyhow!)

Because the more people they can get dependant on them, the more valid their existance becomes. It is both the Genisis and the keystone of Socialism. Dependance is the simplest and most basic rule for establishing such a society.

Im kind of cruel, so I have always been against ANY kind of welfare except in dire emergencies (breadwinner dies off/gets killed, living parent has 3 kids and needs help; single mom working but cant make ends meet; helping the physically/mentally impaired etc...)

My wife has told me first hand as a former pharmacist in New Haven how the locals are on state prescriptions where the co-payis $2, and THAT is even voluntary and they refuse to pay, as they speak on the newest cell phone, have a cart full of crap, and beautiful hair, nails and jewelry driving away in a newer car :smt100

I see driving through Bridgeport in the middle of the day able men hanging out on doorsteps or walking around with no jobs and walking into section 8 (i think thats what it is called) housing.

People will take advantage of handouts, just the way it is. Thus why I am against the current farce of a system.

I wouldn't mind if they stopped all handouts, in fact that is my preference. But, if they are going to take my tax money and hang it out there, I'm going to be first in line to get it back before someone who didn't earn it takes it. Getting my $35,000 ARC loan this week. Wish I had a clunker to turn in.

.... I'm going to be first in line to get it back before someone who didn't earn it takes it.

Not trying to pick on you, but isn't that part of the problem.

Hey if they are giving it away I'm going to take it:huh:

Part of the problem here is ...we don't know what is being given away ?......and it seems like everything is being given away...what the hell....at least let us know where our tax dollars are going..... But it's the government ....How would they know.... spend our way to prosperity
