Well this is why I prefer my kids not choose their careers in sales.

I’ve been in healthcare IT sales for over 30 years as a direct contributor and leader.

Joined a large multinational healthcare IT/imaging modality company a year ago to help launch a new line of business and they pulled the plug before we got it off the ground.

Very discouraging but keeping hope in finding my next endeavor.

At least my boat and truck are paid for! :)
    Merry Christmas to all.

Something good must be ahead. My mantra after being RFI'd ~10 times. Always another opportunity around the corner, IMO.

I've never been RIF'd but have quit good jobs just because they got too demanding (in terms of hours) or I didn't like working for a liar/bully.

Every time I've left a job and closed the door behind me I've always been able to find another door opening as I walked up to it. The new door was not only new, it was better.

    Good luck to you.

Good sales people are always in demand.

    NEXT!

Send a few resumes, take the holidays off, and January is always a good time to start a new job.

In 2008 I was RIF’d, at the time I couldn’t see it, but looking back it was the best thing that could have happpened. I found a much better job with a good company - in a much better place now.

New term - lay-off seems to be a bad word now. The other one is geo strategy - code for closing branches / locations.

My late father always told me, “When you can do things, you will always find a job.”

If you can sell, any company will hire you because all companies need to sell the product.

Are you specifically qualified in medical sales or can you go into something like pharmaceuticals or business tech?

There are two classes of employees in almost all companies. The salesforce and those who rely on the salesforce. ;)

While I run my own businesses i am still affected by RIF. Earlier this year we lost a major account for my small business because a large company took over my client and after a few years decided to close down that office.

Remember that good things are always ahead. Best of luck but good salespeople are always in need.

Healthcare IT is my specialty. I have 3 clinical cardiology credentials and 2 financial services licenses. My sales career allowed me to blend my passion for healthcare and finance/economics.

I started out selling cardiovascular ultrasound early in my career after I was recruited by HP right out of the hospital then progressed to more complex IT systems as the various federal mandates compelled the market.

Part of my issue is my background and experience slots me into senior roles. Many companies today are trying to succeed by hiring early to mid stage sales people. I think it’s a mistake, my meetings in the C suite are professionals my age and the younger sellers still haven’t learned how to deliver value in those conversations. The average transaction value in my role are 7-figure deals with 9-18 month sales cycle.

Im interviewing and a finalist on a couple VP Sales roles but things slow down during fiscal year end focus and holidays.

Im told hiring gets hot in January.

Too bad boat is in storage!

Thank you all. Your kindness and encouragement definitely cheers me up.
