You can now zoom into the U.S. island and stay in focus when did this happen ?

I'm guessing the Bass Islands. This is a fairly new development. I would say the last week. The aerials look to be from around 2011-2012
Kelleys, South Bass and Middle Bass They are all in Lake Erie for the longest time you could only zoom in so close then they would be out of focus

Looks like the image is dated 5/18/2012. copyright Spot Image. My guess is since it doesn't take them 3 years to process the imagery they most likely recently entered into an agreement to use the images. Google tends to sub out a lot of this kind of work to the specialists.
