Good or Bad Idea?

Well it may be a nifty protection device. To me I think it may give you a false sense of security that it may protect more than you think and take less care in the shallows. It also may trap water and promote corrosion under the "skin". If I know it's shallow it's time to slow way down and ensure that I'm on the right course. Yes we have really deep water around here but anything under 25' and I'm on my toes and worried about the same thing you are.

Its held in place with adheasive :wow:
If it ever decided to let go...Mr. Propeller, meet Mr. Blackfin
The very component you're trying to protect gets trashed

I would think it would add some drag, not what you want either.

Trim up and go at it slow

Todd... In our area the depth can be 3-4 ft. in areas coming in from the Potomac. A lot of it is no wake, so we are talking about very slow speeds, constantly watching the depth finding and trimming up as much as possible and still being worried about scraping the skeg. So I am worried about low speed scrapes and hits as well as higher speed ones.

Greg,

I don't think it is the way to go. But I am not familiar with the area you are talking about maybe others in the area can chime in. I know in our area most people do more damage to their skeg on the boat ramp than in the water. I would just take it really easy when in shallow water and raise your drive up a little but not all the way to trailer position or you can do more damage. Your drive also has a tension release as long as you are going forward (I have read my manual way too much) but it does not work in reverse. Basically the drive will absorb inpact but again the manual states the slower you are moving at impact the better. You are talking about no wake zones so I am assuming you will be going at idle anyway. Hope that help, again maybe some of our Potomac crowd will chime in here and help out with this issue.

If you get worried in 25 ft of water Todd you would be a nervous wreak here in the gulf. :smt101

I agree with the others Aquia, the skeg cover will give you false sense of protection.
