I have been on this forum for over five years and I have learned so much! I just want to say thank you to all who have helped with questions and concerns over the years.
The sale of Sum Escape will be completed next week (just a couple minor repairs requested by Buyer to close the deal) and will be moving to the East side of Michigan to her new owners.
The Admiral and I are moving into the next phase of our boating life and are looking for a boat more suitable to living aboard and completing the Great Loop when I retire in a year or so. So it is all part of the plan to be boatless at this point. We want to be in a position to buy and would like to find a boat some time this summer so we can "shake it down" a bit and then do modifications we think are needed over the heated storage season.
I will miss the near 30MPH cruise speed but will not miss the "cave" salon during colder weather here in Michigan. We will get used to a fast trawler speed with time I am certain. And I am certain it will be much more livable for full time residency after retirement. So it is just one of those life changes we all go through....
I will hang around a while and post our hopeful success at finding another vessel before moving on to another appropriate forum. But I am certain this forum is among the best boating forums around so will be hard to match!
Thanks again to the sponsors, administrators and members who have made this a great place.
Fair skies and following seas to all.....

Will do Scott. Thanks for all you do to make this forum as great as it is.

Best of luck to you and hope you do indeed stay around to share the next step in your journey!!!

Look at Aft cabin. We looked at Trawlers but felt the ability to go fast when required was well worth it as to extra fuel burn. We spend up to 3 months on the boat at a time and it is not crampted. Think if I was to spend longer would look at a 42+ foot at waterline Aft cabin. Our boat with gas engines will do 22 knots if not full of stuff. Provisioned and spare parted out for 3 months it will do 18 knots.

Good luck with the next boating adventure! Keep us "in the loop" so to speak...

Good luck...beautiful boat you are parting with there. My wife and I commented on it during a few weekends that it would probably be our next size up.

Hey some it's Boltman your Montague Michigan boating buddy !!!!! Wth what are you looking for and well how big , I see you talking about a trawler he'll go for a 70' Nordhaven why not?? We can give you a ride on 480 sedan bridge big difference then that cave boat you had , that's why we bought the bridge boat..... Hated the cave , talk to me a minute what yeah lookin at buying ???

Boltman

Hate to see you sell but I think it is everyone's desire or at least fantasy to live aboard. Since SR doesn't make a real trawler, moving on is all one can do. As I said to others, this is a brother and sister hood, You will never be "out" of the family. Please post pics of your new live on and stay in touch.

Good luck with your search for your next boat. We went from a 330 Sundancer to a flybridge boat to escape "the cave" and absolutely love it. We have no plans to do the Loop, but at some point will take our boat around the coast and spend a summer in the Puget Sound/San Juan/Gulf Islands area. We did not want to do that trip in the cave, and that's why we traded our Sundancer.

Keep us posted on how your search goes and remember.....we like to hear about others' travels and enjoy looking at photos of their travels.

Looking at Grand Banks and Ocean Alexanders with twin diesels. 45-50 foot. Looked at sedan bridges but like the walk arounds on the GB and OA for locks etc on the loop. Also need less than 19' height for fixed bridge clearance near Chicago (lowest spot on the Loop). When we are successful in our purchase we will post what we end up with.
Safe boating to you Boltman.

Looking forward to hearing about your next adventure. Almost went the same route - maybe in 10 years - need to explore the Great Lakes further first. Take care.

Scott

Thanks SUM yeah I guess the Nordhaven is out of the question then I was just trying to help you spend that money ...... Stick with Grand Banks they're awesome trawlers

Look for our former 44 DA near you soon. She is on her way to Grosse Pointe.
This summer is still "shake down" of the new boat when we find her. Then a winter storage season to make any modifications and such. Then we will explore the Great Lakes for the summer of 2015 and leave through Chicago on the Loop in Sept 2015. Well at least that is the plan as of now.....
Enjoy your new boat!
