Going To Sell My 1944 Sherman Tank So I Can Get A Bigger SeaRay

Grant, my 17 year old, just told me today that when he is older, he wants to restore an M1-A1 (His grand father has a restored 1945 Navy Ford Jeep). I told him he needed a Sherman - and here you are with one!

Did he look at the shermanrestoration.com sight? if you click on the pictures they have captions.

So how much would a fully restored Sherman tank set a guy back?

My 17 year old daughter has had her licence for 6 months, could be handy

Being an old Jar-head I would love to take it off your hands. It would look great in my front yard and keep the neighbors at bay. My buddy has a nice Duece and a half.

But I'm afraid it's beyond my pay grade at the moment. And being an old boat owner doesn't help...

I had a problem with people coming in the back side of my place to hunt. I dug a 4ft wide X 8 ft deep trench around one guy's pickup with a backhoe. Everyone now says "don't hunt on that guy's place; he's crazy". Pulling up to a deer hunter in a Sherman tank would certainly reinforce that notion..........ummmm how would I get it to Tennessee?

It was something to be casually looking around Fred's 'lil' shop and see a tank in the corner. Pretty impressive! ( the tank AND the shop )

I find your restoration amazing. I never even really thought of someone owning a military tank!

Since you posted this, I have been going through your photos one-by-one, top-to-bottom as I get a chance. I just came across this photo of tank history http://shermanrestoration.com/page1/files/page1-1375-full.html where it mentions the 63rd infantry division. This is the very division ("Blood and Fire") that my grandfather was in, during that time period in Germany. I will have to show him this photo and your tank. I know he will be impressed!

btw, I tried to get my wife on board with owning a tank....still trying. :smt001 But then I think I'd have to live in it, alone.

Dad was RCAF but stationed at an Army base for his last 3 years of service. The CO retired & the base presented a parting gift to him.
At the parade in rolls a float with a museum quality restoration on a Sherman.................painted gold.
Sometime in 1972-1975, Base Gagetown, N.B..

Very cool! How many gallons to the mile? About 8 I would think? Imagine a M1A1 and buying Jet Fuel for it! I always liked the diesel M80 Light Tank. That Sherman would work good in the PA Wilds, Mike.

Took me a while to go through all of your restoration photos. I was assigned as a Scout on the LAV-25.

The first few pics of the Sherman made me feel really sad. Why would someone take a vehicle like that and trash it just hurts. Glad you brought her back to life! She is amazing now!

Hey Fred those grandkids are going to need something to drive you might want to keep that tank.

You need a 460DA, I know where there's one on Travis
