Go Fund Me. The WALL

"fortifications are monuments to man’s stupidity.”

"fortifications are monuments to man’s stupidity.”
Gen G. Patton

Do you have any idea what that quote means? So if you want to take Patton's real point in the quote instead of a protective defensive wall, we should attack all of Mexico, South, and Central America and just control it all? Then no "fortification" would be needed.

Patton's quote is about war taken badly out of context...

What's theoretical? What you call IOU's are US Treasury issued securities. For years some of those have even been available to the public. Here's a quick grab that might illustrate that for Dec 1991.

Look at the interest rate diff between publicly available and special issue....It blows my mind the schemes the gov't comes up with...

Could be. All I know is he said he doesn't pay in and cannot collect it.
depends on how old he was when he started in the PD Pension. I am a fire fighter and pay 12.5% into the OP&F, my township pays 25%. I will have worked 25 to retire. Prior to entering the pension I did poor the requisite 44 quarters so I am eligible for SS. However it will be reduced because of my pension. Additionally, If my wife is a beneficiary on my pension, her SS payout will be reduced was well... which is absolute hogwash

I hear you, you worked and earned it, then you're penalized. My wife is eyeballin' a different job, a 6 year commitment, she'll be 75 when she finally retires for good. You'd think they'd want folks to work and keep generating revenue for the system but the reality is they want to shelf you as cheaply as possible so someone else can have your spot.

I'm hoping Trump would kick in 500 million to this wall fund or maybe say he'll do some kind of match...it would take off like a wildfire then.

Is that a Madoff Investments statement? LOL

Let's see where we are in 10 years or so. This is how I see it.

A couple create a college account for their kids, the deposit generously and even brag to their friends about how much they save for the kids college. The couple then borrow from the college fund to pay for vacations and other lavish living, replacing with official loan documents. Documents appear to show they have diligently prepared for the kids college and all that needs be done is collect the debts. When they have to pay for college, where does the money come from?

We can either raise the SS tax or other taxes to pay for it or just renege on the promises. I do not know when, but the day of reckoning is coming.

MM
That just it. They loaned to themselves. Would have been better to loan to third parties so the money isn't paid back by the same tax payers who made the "deposit."

He started this job about 1 week after he turned 21 (about 2009). He is 30 now.

Its fun to listen to anti-boarder security rhetoric from those that live in gated communities and work in an office building guarded by armed police. Its like the uber wealthy complaining that the "rich" dont "pay their fair share".

boatman, I'm in the same boat....sort of. I worked for years before I became a cop and contributed to SS. When I became a cop I stopped the SS contributions but contributed to the state's pension system.

I lucked out because I started as a cop in October, 1977. The state pension system realized the pension system was too generous so in 1978 they started with a new system that was nowhere as generous.

After I quit chasing bad guys I went back to the private sector and again paid into SS. I have more than enough quarters of contributions that I now get my SS checks as well as my pension checks from the state.

Tell your son-in-law to retire from his cop job as soon as he can and go to work in the private sector so he can contribute to SS.

how high do they make the wall? 45 feet? what happens if someone has a 50 foot ladder and a rope.....then what? or the dig a tunnel under the wall? What are the many ways Mexico will pay for this that won't come back to the American people paying for it (ie higher priced on their goods)?

How good is the lock on your car door? A determined burglar can get by any security you may care to install. Betcha still lock your doors though.... Just think of the wall as a lock on the front door of our country.

He has about 9 years in so far but they have no pension. His 'retirement' is pretty poor. They get 50% of their salary after they retire, no pension and no 401k or any other retirement plan. He is now a detective and was just promoted to Cpl. I think he said he has to put 25 years in so at that point he would be 46. It would be really tough to retire from there and not take on another job.

I know I really regret having a garage door, I just feel so silly having a "fortification" keeping my tools and beer fridge secure...

MM, yes. He was, at that time talking about the Macino Line ( forgive my guess at the spelling) It was a very bad defensive plan between Germany and the French. The Germans found a way around it, Argan Forest / twice. It too was a wall / fortifacation. The Frence hide behind it. It's WE that want to build this wall. It's WE that think it will stop this invasion and it is a invasion. A Wall is a complete waste of funds.

My Greatgrandfather and the CSA hide behind the fortifacation of Petersburg, it failed. He passed at The Craiter The Army of the North went under those.

Something can and must be done. My guess/suggestion, stop the folks, the bleeding tree hugging hearts from giving folks everything they wish to have and do as they did in the past. You want to come here, great you're here...now find your own way. No welfare, no free health, no anything. Just as my Grandfather did. He came here to get away from Hitler, joined the USN and gave his life to this country. He did it all by the book, proved to our country he wasn't a spy. Even then shipped to PT due to fears, only then to see his shipmates killed at Pearl. HE and the many souls that fought for our freedoms....NM I'm off my box now.

IF we don't learn from our past we are destined to repeat it.
There must be a better way.

Right now my father would have been furlowed, my mom would be stressed to the max. As kids we wouldn't understand. Right now, at Christams, there are thousands of dads in my fathers footsteps.

How would you feel?

Maybe your right but just maybe so am I but at the very least we are talking about it. Washington can't even do that

The 50% after retirement is a pension.
At least that’s what we call it in New York.

Many civil service employees here also contribute to a “Deferred Compensation” plan.

It’s pre-tax earnings that we invest, which cannot be withdrawn from until retirement.

UNREAL!!!

"Texas Democratic Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee on Wednesday introduced House Resolution 7332, which would "prohibit taxpayer funds from being used to build a wall between Mexico and the United States, and for other purposes."

Currently, there are four co-sponsors: Reps. Karen Bass (D-CA), Yvette Clarke (D-NY), Marcia Fudge (D-OH) and Joaquin Castro (D-TX).

The bill has been referred to the House Judiciary Committee and the House Homeland Security Committee."

More time wasted as many government employees go without pay

boatman, if he still has ~14 years before he can retire, he's nuts if he doesn't get a college education in those 14 years. When he retires at 46 he'll have a college degree plus his 25 years of LE experience behind him.

When I was in the USAF I went to college every place I was stationed. Then continued when I got out and also when I went into law enforcement. My schooling was in Business Admin with majors in marketing and management. Within 2 months of leaving LE I got a job as a financial advisor and continued with that until I retired. The college was what opened the door to that job.

Also, he can contribute $$$ to a Roth IRA. That's the best investment vehicle ever because it's after tax money you put into it and when you take it out at retirement you pay ZERO tax on the money you put in and ZERO on the growth of your investment.

Yeah. My daughter is a financial advisor and has talked to him a little. The one thing he did was get a life insurance policy on my granddaughter. I daytrade stocks and have tried to get him into it but he has no interest. Maybe at some point he will change his mind but for now he just goes about his job. He did go to college for an Associates in Police Services but quit as soon as he finished the academy but he does have some basic credits accumulated.
