GM employees

As a CSX retiree, we haul GM cars and get employee pricing.
But you’d have to put the title in my name.
PM me, ya I’ll get that car delivered to you. Who are you? Never heard of you.

You can often beat supplier pricing with some negotiating... I've done with both with Ford and even employee pricing on Ram...

Any GM employees or retirees on here? Looking for a supplier discount (friends and family) this spring. PM me if you can help out this old fart. ;)

Thanks in advance.
There is a supplier discount and a family discount two different pricing…neither can be passed onto a friend…unless you know a sneaky way around it but few employees will take that chance with their code.

That has been true in the past but not lately. Supplies will stay tight for the rest of this year I expect. Even rebates are pretty much nonexistent.
We just negotiated a trade for a new Lexus 2023…..not only was the selection just about nonexistent…there was zero discount….the only thing I could negotiate was the trade in value…..and after they came up $1,000 I hit a brick wall ….they came back with take it or leave it…. In a nice way of course….it’s tough out there right now

Blue, this is from the GM Family First website.

"GM Supplier Discount for Friends is a program that allows eligible employees to extend the same discount that GM suppliers receive to cousins, friends or neighbors."

It must have changed…I haven’t bought a GM product in a while.

I just bought my wife a Volkswagen Atlas. There was very little wiggle room in the price. Made some headway on the trade. My wife wanted more for her trade but they offered over KBB and I got them up another $500. I didn't push too hard because the transmission needs to be rebuilt. They didn't ask me anything about the car.

We went to look at a Kia Telluride, but they wanted sticker plus $10K. I laughed.

My daughter in law's grandfather worked on a GM production line for his whole career. When my son wanted to get a truck, grandpa took him to the dealership and got him the employee discount. Truck had to be titled in both their names initially, but they changed it shortly after the purchase. Saved him a chunk of change.

That is true. My new company car was ordered in August and finally got a build date of 2/5. I just picked up a new personal car, a Ram Limited...was tempted to go new but for a tick over $80,000 and zero rebates, no thanks. Even with 6% under invoice that I could get, was a bit rich for my blood. Settled for a squeeky clean '19 and a hell of a deal on my trade in...took a while to find the right truck and a dealer that wanted to deal though.

Good luck on the pending purchase!

And that's how I knew I reached the best price in this market. The deals weren't getting any better and the trucks were still selling within two weeks of hitting the dealers lots...ended up pulling the trigger with just a few hours left in the year.

Supplier discount for friends has been that way for over a decade.

It's a few hundred dollars of GM Employee discount (depends on vehicle), and I'd agree that during typical times one can negotiate close to Employee Dicsount, but not right now.

.

My wife likes both the big Kia and Hyundai SUV’s, moreso the Kia. But paying over sticker for any car, let alone a Kia, is nuts. Really speaks to the awful reputation Kia dealers have earned.

I was thinking about buying an Explorer. Then my daughter bought a used Hyundai Palisade. So I looked St the Palisade.
At 5K plus above sticker I walked out.

They are nice vehicles, but I liked the Volkswagen better. It is mostly an Audi with slightly lesser interior materials. The big selling point for the Hyundai/Kia is the 10 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty. The dealer network I bought the Atlas from gives a 10 year/200,000 mile powertrain warranty - they actually buy a service contract. So that was a no brainer. When the Kia salesman told me about the $10K premium I laughed and told him I wasn't paying $60,000 for a $40,000 car.

Careful with those "dealer network" extended warranty's. They almost always have a stringent list of maintenance requirements that if not strictly adhered to, at a shop within that "network" will void the warranty.

Compared to the Explorer it would be about $10K less for a comparably equipped vehicle.

I "had" an in at a dealer. My son-in-law's college roommate and best friend married the daughter of a guy who owns a Ford & Hyundai dealership in another state. Back in 2016 when I got my Escape, they gave me a hot deal that was about $4.5K better than what anyone here in Chicago offered me.
So when I started looking at the Palisades I contacted them. Got a response of "No Deals, Sticker price" and "People are giving us deposits for vehicles and we do not even know what is coming in. Inventory is gone before we receive it."

OK, Fine... I do not need a new car, I only would like one...

With inflation and higher interest rates, I am hearing auto sales are slowing (As a cutting tool manufacturer, we review that type of market data).

Lastly, the first Hyundai dealer keeps calling and sending emails now... after 6 months of silence. I think they are getting hungry...

Mitch, you are correct. But I compared it to the Hyundai/Kia requirements and they are pretty much the same.
