Does anyone out there have one of these Glowmex TV antenna's that were OEM from Sea Ray that works? My 370 DA has the factory Glowmex antenna along with the shore power hookup. The antenna coax terminated behind the TV in the salon where it plugs into the Glowmex amp that is also plugged into the 120V outlet provided for the TV. From the amp a coax cable leads to the ship or shore switch and from there to the TV. I have never been able to get much reception at all. The Antenna was very weathered so last year I puchased a new replacement and even replaced the fitting on the end of the coax at the radar arch. Still I get no reception except for one spanish station which is fuzzy. The LED light on the amp is lit. Anyone have any experice or guidance for me. I can believe I can not get any reception at all. I am beginning to think the tuner in the TV may be at fault?

I have never been able to get that thing to work on my boat either. However, it would work on my 380DA if I parked below a TV tranmission tower. I was just looking at the thing yesterday on my 480 wondering how to take it off and remove the wiring/switch/etc. A spare GPS would fit nicely in that spot. I have sat tv though... Not sure what the point of that thing is.

My one word review of those things is: Poop

I thought I was doing something wrong or the TV was broken. I couldn't get one channel on the TV.

I need to get rid of the whole setup. I would rather just have a laptop and wifi on the boat. I would like to remove the TV and put a door on the cabinet for more storage. Does anyone know where I can get a door for that compartment that matches the rest of the cabinets?

Mine doesn't seem to do anything either. It does look important up on the arch and it makes non-boaters think I have... "some sort of radar"

I get 3 or 4 channels fairly clear, also I couldn't get the darn thing clean, so I pulled it off, taped off the sticker and little square "eye" and spray painted it white, looks brand new now................I don't waste valuble time watching TV on the boat (except for the news in the morning)...... I can do that at home.

I usually clean it with a 1/3 bleach 2/3 water solution......but I like the paint idea....does it keep the mildew off? Any special paint for plastic?

Before the World Trade Center went down with it's TV transmission towers on top, I could get a couple of NY channels. Although not real clear, they could be viewed. Now, reception is almost non existent and really sucks.

Dom,

I did this last winter with regular Rustoleum gloss white, I wasn't about to buy a new one but it looked so bad I had to do something, HA maybe it helped the reception  , after 1 full year it still looks great.

Mine did not work either, it just so happened that it looked so bad that I took it off and the coax connector was completely off. So after I taped it off and repainted it, I cut off the old connection and put on a new connector. Shazam It worked --- it worked better when I swithed the switch to antenna from cable. It looks factory now also.

Good Luck!

Same here ... playing with the powered gain dial helps a bit, but we mostly use our sat antenna at the slip and hook up when we get back in from the day. ..

Out here on the bay I only adequately receive the local PBS station (WLIW) which has a transmitter about 10 miles away (Plainview) and this is again only after tweaking the gain adjustment.

I too would suspect that the current NYC station transmitters just do not have the same reach (due to reduced antenna height and transmit power) they had prior to 9/11. Then again why should the TV stations expend big $$$ on additional transmitters and the electricity to run them when nowadays just about everyone is connected via cable, satellite or fiber? It may not make economic sense.

Also on my 280DA the antenna gain adjustment plate is located where the the auxillary 12V outlet is supposed to be and thus I have no 12V outlet in the galley. Has anyone else noticed this or is it unique to my 2006 280DA?

I am going to have to do something about not having a 12V accessory outlet down below!

The best reception for HD is with Antenna. My Brother and Law and I both have the same HD TV's and he uses Direct and I have Dish Network with HD Antenna for Locals. With sports the color is brighter and more vivrant with an Antenna- so until Cable and Satellite quit compressing HD signals - I will take my HD Antenna. I wish they made them for boats.

Thanks for all the replies, looks like I am not alone on this one and putting too much energy into trying to fix it is not time well spent.

We bought a HD reciever and a directional antenna. The Glomax is an Omnidirectional antenna and will work in open areas not around buildings. All the local signals here brodcast in HD now. We mounted the directional antenna to the dock, and hook into it with the cable and turn on the HD reciever.
22 channels crisp, clear and free! Some of the local stations even have multiple channels with 24 hour weather. On the old SRO there was a link on how to do this.

Take the glomax and pich it.

yea... here in Williamsburg we have 22 channels (sarcastic comment)

shoot... I'm not sure we have 22 stop lights. Come to think of it... we don't have a TV station...

I'm thinking the Glomax might be good just in case we get invaded by aliens or something. They will have "Glomax Ready (TM) Transmissions"

Ok, my Glomax isn't working at all. I put up a pair of rabbit ears and got 4 stations, glomax=none. I turned the gain knob every which way and it makes no difference at all. looks like there are little lights around the knob to show the level but mine aren't lighting. How is this thing supposed to work?

You need to have DC power to the antenna....are the batteries and breakers on?

Everything is on, I even see a little power light on the booster so it's getting power. What's crazy is, when I unhook the cable from the back of the TV that is coming from the antenna, I get better reception. So I'm actually getting worse reception with it. Is the booster supposed to light up around the dial as you turn the gain up?
