I was thinking of adding a generator, but was wondering where I could put it. Also, how small, compared to output do they make them?

Funny! All I have to run is the refrig. lights and a microwave. I have not had it looked at to be sure but isn't the inverter part of the shore power/converter. It appears to have 110v wiring running from the converter to the control panel in the cabin. Or is the inverter a separate unit. every thing works fine as long as I am plugged in to shore power. The refer will work off the battery but runs it down overnight, when not slipped. I know thats another issue. But the micro and the other 110v outlets will not power.

That is, I think, the answer I was looking for. The boat currently has three batteries, but it looks as though I can easily switch to this option. The batteries need to be replaced anyway. The inverter you suggest would fit in the place of the current converter dimensionally, and I would not have to listen to a generator run. I appreciate your input.

I was thinking about adding an inverter in my 220DA. I'm thinking about a lower power, cheaper unit. A search shows the Xantrex XM1800 to fit the bill (less than $350.00).
Would you use this on one battery, and use the other battery strickly for starting, or do you feed the inverter with both batteries? I use Optima batteries in my cars and boats, and can attest to their quality. I just replaced one in my car that lasted almost 10 years. I actually use the blue top in my cars.

I suppose I can go either way. Since I boat on a lake, it's not a big deal if I get stuck out there....unless there's a storm coming. I always carry a portable booster battery pack on my boats, but I really never had occasion to use it. I think going with three batteries is really the answer.
