I have a 340 DA with a generator. When I run the generator, should the AC Converter toggle switch be turned to the On position? or the Off position??

If you want to charge your batteries, it should be on. The generator alternator is only going to charge the battery it is hooked to for starting.

On, except if you are running the mains. Since the mains will charge the batteries, there is no need to power up the converter. Once you shut down the mains, power up the converter.

Westerbeke Stator Burnt Up

2nd time in 5 Years:huh: 1st time it was warrenty work so I never found out why, This time I'm pulling the head off and having the Stator Rewound...Could it be bad windings from Westerbeke or did my regulator go and cook it.....
This is a "Bench" Job but I'm do'in it in my Engine room :smt101 on my 34' Sundancer----I don't want to pull the Genset out compleatly....I have 1 More bolt to go and have already attched the puller and got her move'in.....

I thouht I posted this ?---I guess not...I guess I better figure out how....

Frank,

That brings up a question:

What about when I'm underway and running the genny - am I OK to have the Converter CB ON?

Seems like I'm then charging the batteries from both the engine alternators and the battery charger (converter). So far I've had no problems doing that, but it seems like it could cause some.

It's far far easier to pull the gen set out of the engine room and work with it on the bench. I'd never try and do any repair with it in the hull. I had two guys help me lift mine out. The marina's forklift operator helped me put it back in place. Stator windings are prettty robust. Surprised they burned out.

The alternator's charge at a higher voltage than the converter, so the converter probably isn't doing anything. Probably. I try to remember to switch the converter off.

Best regards,
Frank

Ok I am not sure I understand your wording, just what do you mean by "mains?"

Do you mean the main breaker(s) being on while on shore power?

Thanks
