Westerbeke 7.2 BCGTC

MY A/C would shut down and show ac/lo. checked output only 100 volts

my marina took a look at genie they said it needed a tune up.
so I changed the plugs, cap and rotor still 100 volts.
next I changed oil on governor and replaced belts 105 volts
adjusted linkage on governor as far as I could now 110 volts and 61hz

Whats the next step? or should I be happy with this it runs my a/c now.

Assure that is is running at the proper RPM.....I think Westerbekes run at 1800rpm.

There is a capacitor in the generator that needs to be replaced. I think its typically 31.5uf and is similar to a motor start capacitor.

If your Westerbeke generator is running at 1800rpm it should be outputting 60hz. If you are getting 61hz without a load on the generator and 60hz when loaded down I'd say you were right on the money and your generator is working as it should.

The frequency is a direct result of the engine rpm 1800rpm for 60 hertz, 1500rpm for 50 hertz. The output voltage is controlled by the regulation circuitry within the generator. Low AC output between 60-106V can be caused by a faulty rotor winding, diode or capacitor. Typically, it a failed capacitor as mentioned earlier.

Does any one know what capacitor is in there ?

Here is some info from the Westerbeke manual...

When the capacitor on my 7.2 went I was getting zero voltage, so it could be the same scenario but yours hasn't finished its death spiral. The part was relatively easy to diagnose and replace. I got the parts, and all the manuals on troubleshooting right from the Westerbeke website. Now I'm dealing with the water pump/impeller again.....ugh
