This is inline on the fuel to the generator. It is buried behind my left engine. I had to reach way back to take a picture. What is this part.
I assume it is a filter but I see no name or numbers on it.
It is on a 1986 390 Flybridge

More likely a fuel pump given the connections but I don't recognize the make. Do you have a Quicksilver generator? If so the fuel pump sits next to the generator and is a likely failure point when you aren't getting fuel to the generator.

If it starts with carb cleaner ......the fuel pump should be replaced with one like this:

BTW welcome to CSR!

Do you have enough fuel in the tank? Many generator installs will not go to the bottom of the tank and might need over 1/4 to 1/3 of fuel in the tank before they can draw from it.

Some boats have a fuel solenoid, but I agree with PlayDate that what you have is a bit larger and could be a fuel pump. Can you get more pictures from a different angle?

It's not a fuel pump, it's on the engine a westerbeke. The electrical line is a ground.

What model of Westerbeke? Since it isn't red....it isn't from Westerbeke.

Also if the yellow portion is not an electrical connector......who knows what it is other than fuel seems to flow thru it? It is not a fuel filter that I have ever seen used on a generator. It's shape reminds me of the old paddlewheel fuel monitors but they haven't made those for decades.

It is on the fuel line before the generator which you can't see the generator is red by the way.
The boat is a 1986 390 Sea Ray w/Flybridge.
I'm just trying to identify it. I'm going to remove it this weekend and figure it out.

Or it's a liquid fuel lockoff... electric solenoid that cuts off fuel when the engine is stopped... frequently tied into an oil pressure switch... a safety device.

If it isn't a lockout ^^^ It could also be a fuel flow sender for a flo-scan meter or the like.

Does it have any other wires coming off of it? If not then it's not either of the above.

Well for sure it is not a Westerbeke part. Westerbeke has the 1986 manual for the 6.5 on their website and there is no part that looks like that. It looks like it houses a fuel paddlewheel but it would have more than a ground wire.

if it were a flowmeter, then it would have had a sensor lead and a ground.

your earlier pictorial had background edited out, and another picture appered to have some other appendage.

unless you've opened it and found a paddlewheel, there's still a significant possibility that a diaghram and cutoff valve resideinside.
