Generator keeps shutting down

Hi to those who have tried to sort this issue out with me. Finally resolved today and is worth posting the issus incase anyone else has the same issue.
I went right through every cable to and from the gen set. Pulled out the start and pre heat switches and found the start/run switch had intermittent fault. Even pulled the carling switches apart and found contacts were quite burnt. So replaced the switches. Tried to start again and still the same. Ok here it is. My Sea Ray 500 is fitted with a Sea Fire fire fighting/suppression system. The system has a module in the circuit that automatically shuts the engines and genset down in the event of a fire. The module has a series of inbuilt switches that perform the task, one for each engine and one for the genset. As it turns out the switch for the genset was faulty. When you switch the genset to run the switch within the module engages and provides current to the run circuit through the switch to the genset. Unless there is a fire. The module being faulty was switching off after a few minutes. By passed the switch and all runs perfectly. Had it running for oner an hour fully loaded no problem. Have to order a new module which will fix the problem.

Glad you found your problem. Question, where is the module you are talking about located ? Also, when yours shut down, did the fuel solenoid close, like it was getting a signal to shut down. Ours doesn't, it acts like it is running out of fuel, the solenoid stays in the run position.

One of the examples of how newer boats have become to complex. Keep it simple stupid is my motto. I'd by pass the module altogether.

The module is located in the the dash cavity behind the steering wheel. It cuts all power to the run circuit on the generator meaning that the solenoid and lift pump don't get any power to run. Remember that our genset is controlled from the main panel in the salon. The power runs from the genset to the main panel and back to the genset (run Circuit) through the Sea Fire engine shut down system. The module also has running through it both engines, bilge blowers, and a number of accessories. A real pain when it goes out of wack. The you should have like I do, an override switch on a small panel, usually round somewhere near the dash. When you flick the switch to over ride it should bypass the module and allow you to start anything that is running through it. I tried that in the first place before I went digging only to find out it made no difference. I think it must just over ride for the main engines, not everything else. You can still start the fire system manually and I am thinking seriously of bypassing the module (auto fire all together) and just have the ability to manually turn it on if I ever need to.

Thanks for the info. I will chase it down. Maybe thats our issue also.
