I can get to the zinc no problem and unbolt it ... however the boss is so close to the floor that you cannot get a new zinc stick in. there is no way. You have to remove the heat exchanger or lift the genny a few inches before you could get it in.

WHere do the mains have zincs?? 8.1S Horizons here. Can you point me to them. Merc does not show these engines to have zincs.

Thanks Alex D! I don't know what happened to my signature, but yes a 260DA. The photo was taken with the 496 Mag engine removed, so there is a tad less space now, but still serviceable.

I have Crusader 8.1s and there is one zinc per engine. On Crusaders there is a heat exchanger at the back of the engine (actually on top and in the heat exchanger) that is very easy to reach on my boat. I can remove it while sitting on the floor of the cockpit. If you have fresh water cooling on your Mercs you probably have something to protect the cooling system unless it's raw water. Maybe a Merc owner will chime in.

I have 8.1S Horizons, so they're fresh water cooled, but I have neve seen any zincs in the ehat exchangers, nor does the owners or repair manual mention anything about such zincs :huh:

That appears to be where my water tank is? Where is your water tank? I have a 2000 260

The fresh water tank is on the port side (to left of the generator in my photo), the waste holding tank to the starboard side. Batteries are mounted aft on the starboard side, water heater aft on the port side.
