We have a 1989 Aft Cabin with a Quick Silver 8KW generator that has 730 hours on it. It does not burn oil or stall when used. The exhaust system needs a new "filter" (this is a cast iron block that connects to the flex exhaust hose that goes to the muffler pipe) it srewed into the manifold with a short nipple 1.5" pipe. To replace it the maniford needs to come off to get the nipple out. Has any one done this? Is 730 hours getting near the end of the generator life?

Quicksilver generators are made by "GENERAC". I got expert help from the dealer below. Parts are available but expensive! 750hrs. just breaking in. 4cld. nissan motor. Will run long long time if you service properly.

Thanks for getting back with such valuable information. I will contact them next week and let you know how we make out. As you pointed out the generator is in good condition. I did not know it was Nissan motor. It should last longer than the boat.

Generators run at much lower RPM's.

A short gas generator life is 2,000

5,000 is a high number.

Run it under a good heavy load and change the oil and you can get over 5,000 hours.

We got it fixed. To remove the corroded nipple from the manifold we took the manifold off and beat out the old threads on the nipple. There was no corrosion in the manifold. On the exhaust filter we retapped the fitting. The exhaust filter was in good condition. Once all threads were exposed we put in new 1.5" nipple and then put it back on the motor. The manifold gasket was in good condition and was able to be used again. Will replace the gasket at the endo of the season and put in a shedule 160 nipple.

I had the QuickSilver 7.5 on a 1993 370DB and we had 4200 hours on it when we sold it. I never did anything but change oil and impellers. It was a great genset.

Hey Friend

I have a quicksilver 10kw with a 1.2 liter nissan engine,

I have researched and found that you can get the same engine from a used generac 20kw home standby unit at your local generator repair shops. my gen. has 8075 hrs on it.
I bought 2 complete units for $350.00, one has 317 hrs and the other has 518 hrs, both run great and the marine parts will bolt on. Now i have plenty of extra parts for replacement. Alot cheaper than a new generator.

Damn guys...wish I was that lucky. I've got the 5.0 and been having trouble...replaced the fuel pump (with a NAPA) one, is was running for 30 minutes or so with a load, now the damn think will only crank, and run for a few minutes at best...ideas????

I took the manifold off to replace the 1.5" nipple as it was a thin one I put on. The exhaust outlet (part that mixes sea water with exhauts gas) was corroded through, the outboard end flange was also corroded through and the tubes were 99% plugged with sea water deposits. All other parts were in good condition. Was able to get the parts from John's contact. Unit was working great until I took it apart. Should be working in a few weeks. As John said parts are expensive. No one has a raw water pump. Does any one know where I can get a complete unit? I an reluctant to rebuild it as it works fine. We now have 950 hours on the unit. Do you need to change the oil in the governor if it is full.
