I ended up a little sideways on the first attempt at landing on the trailer. I caught it early but not before the hull encountered a carpeted bunk at an odd angle. I was able to polish out most of the bunk residue, except for the portion of the "V" shown below, about an 8in x 1in abrasion. Difficult to tell if the gelcoat has been removed or the bunk deposited a layer of residue on top of the gelcoat.

Seems like most folks recommend the Spectrum kit, matched to OE hull color. Would this kit work on this abrasion?

Hard for me to tell from the picture but if I had to guess I'd probably lean toward a carpet burn. I would first try to buff it out with a buffer & some Meguires/3M compound before going the sanding/gel coat route.
One thing that may help in the future is before you retrieve the boat from the lake back the trailer all the way in to wet the bunks then pull forward to the point you load the boat at.

Yup, carpet residual. Hit it with Meguirs One-step Compound. Work the compond in with a porter cable 7424. Then give it a coat of wax.

Good luck.

Getting the bunks wet - great advice, thx! I'll try some compound on it.

Bunk slicks are another way to go. I was never a believer in these until I tried them.

PS: Hey Wayne, come on now. You've been around here long enough to know you should fill in your signature!:smt001

Will the bunk slicks work on heaver boats like the 240SD. I purchase a couple sets but ended up giving them to my son-in-law for his bass boat. Just did not feel they could hold the weight of the 240SD. What size boat do you have Wayne

I use them on my 260DA. I do have rollers in the back, but my forward bunks hold a good deal of the weight. My trailer used to have forward keel rollers that I got rid of.

We've put them on full bunk systems, as well. Haven't had a customer complain.

These are what I used: http://www.tiedown.com/abunks.html

Cool, much bigger than the ones I purchased. Did not see the specs on them. Do you know what weight they are rated for??

No, I don't know. I never came across a weight rating - not on the box or the instruction sheet. Honestly, it's not even something I was worried about.
