Hey guys,

Was wondering if anyone had exp with wanting to go from gel coat color to a paint code? I am in the process of som cockpit upgrades and would like the new parts to match. I am able to mix paint at work and just wondered if oyster white from the older Sea Rays had a match. Thanks for your help...

i don't know if this will help, but below is the response from Sea Ray when i recently inquired about the gelcoat color for my boat...i don't know if either of these numbers could be cross referenced to a paint color...if they could you could get the same info from Sea Ray about your boat...

FYI, there have been about six 'Arctic White' shades, including multiple shades during the same year.

When I re-did my cockpit door frames last year I took one of the frames to my local paint store and they color matched it. When I sprayed the frames it was a perfect match for the the gelcoat.

Even if you found a color code, it's very unlikely it will match due to fading over the years. The only way I think you'll get something that you'll be happy with is to do what Henry did. A floor hatch would be something you could take in, if you can't find anything else.

Thanks for the Arctic white info Cliff but I need Oyster White...

Jason - I think Cliff was just offering the info he got from Sea Ray as an example... meaning you could contact Sea Ray with your HIN and they could provide you with the info that would be specific to your boat.

Thanks Dennis and sorry Cliff if this was your plan I will try that tomorrow and see what I come up with. Thanks a million guys.....man I love CSR:thumbsup:

exactly what i found to be true....when i coated my interior vinyl earlier this year with SEM spray vinyl coating i got a color sample card from SEM first...i held the sample card up to the gelcoat and found that the sea ray color 'mystic white' was a very close match to my gelcoat instead of the original color 'artic white'...the hull has faded over the years...the interior recoating came out nice and the color matches the gelcoat very closely...

maybe you can get some color sample cards from the manufacturer of paint you are looking at and do the same thing...

Thank you every one. I guess I will take my dupont index in two weeks and just match the color the best I can. I will let you know what I can come up with.
