So I drained the gear lube on my bravo 3. Then I turned the key on thinking there would be an alert telling me I was low on gear lube. But nothing. Does the engine have to be running or is my gear lube monitor malfunctioning?

The gear lube monitor sender checks out fine. After looking at the wire diagrams. (Sea Ray and Mercruiser provide excellent wire diagrams) It appears as though the engine has to be running for low gear oil alarm to sound....?

No, it will sound with just the key on. It works with a ground signal. Unplug both leads, should stop if that's your problem
