I have a Garmin 441s chartplotter. When I got this I thought it was cool that it could receive XM marine weather. I have been looking into what it takes to do this and am surprised. My understanding is I must have a Garmin antenna and network connections that cost around $600 for parts. Is this understanding correct?

Thanks,

MM

The unit receives satellite signals without an external antenna. Why not the marine weather? Why the special antenna?

MM, that is my understanding as well. My 4212 had to have the extra marine weather kit as well.

Mike,
I think it's because they are different satellites. One uses the gov't controlled GPS system and the other uses the XM subscription satellite. I could be wrong on this but that was my general take on it when I looked into this last year.
