I'd like to step up to an AIS receiver and integrate with the NMEA 2000 system and Garmin 7612xsv MFD on the boat.
Garmin just released their VHF 210 AIS which packages a 25 Watt VHF, DSC, AIS receiver, and NMEA 2000.
Can anyone comment on this unit or if you have one - the good, bad, and ugly?

BOE (Jim) - any comment??

Thanks
Tom

Well as it ends up this radio with integrated AIS is just coming out. Interesting about Garmin and their products launching months before available; One's drool can dry up waiting....

Last year I bought the Simrad RS 35, with integrated AIS & DSC, and integrated it into my system, over NMEA 0183. So far very happy with it.

FWIW, I'm leaning towards this Standard Horizon unit, mostly because it will match with my SH handheld. Integrating with the Raymarine eS panels might be a slight challenge but it's doable

I'm trending to the Garmin as
1. my entire electronics suite is Garmin including a 7612xsv plotter and GPS and
2. it integrates with the NMEA 2000 backbone on the boat so all of the DSC and AIS data is available to the network. I just don't know if the VHF provides "all" of the AIS data to the plotter..... The Garmin literature is unclear which is typical...
The Standard Horizon seems to integrate with a specific protocol (looks like NMEA 183) and seems to be only DSC; can't tell.

But, thanks for the feedback!
Tom
