I heard a rumor that Garmin had a software issue that did not recalibrate the signature of two satellites properly which depending on your location and the power of your signal to those satellites would position you off at times or have the GPS show you jump.
Well I had that issue in the fog on our Thanksgiving trip and didn't know of the issue until yesterday.
So I went to Garmin's site and downloaded the latest Software update for my 545s unit. The version I had on the unit was 3.0 and it installed version 4.30 which was created 11-19-08.
So I haven't been on the water today to test it out but I hope that does the trick.
So if you have a Garmin you may want to get a blank SD card and update the software
