Does anybody use Garmins Inland Lakes DVD MapSource software? I just noticed it has my local lake covered now. From what I can see on Garmins Site it looks like it has pretty good details on it.

I'm still waiting for one of our favorite lakes to be included. It's supposed to be added but I haven't seen any maps with it included. Once it is, I'll probably jump depending on the GPS we end up with. We're still trying to figure out which one to buy.

I've been waiting on Lake Chatuge in North GA/Western NC to be avl on a Garmin map for some time. I've got the older US Recreational Lakes with Fishing Hot Spots, East V5. Works good on most bigger lakes, but did not have the detail on the smaller lakes. I really like Garmins/Mapsources maps. Have you played with the link on Garmins site to see if you lake is now covered? I had to play with the map and really zoom in to see the details.

I just got it the other day! I just bought a GPSMAP76CSX last week, and got the topo and inland lakes map dvds. I checked, and it does in fact have Lake Chatuge, with indications of fish attractions, and depth and bouy markers.

I also integrated this garmin into my 2005 Microsoft Streets & Trips and used it when I went to Salt Lake City last week! The only bad part of that, is I have to have my pc on at the same time... But, it did come in handy finding the restaurant we were looking for, then finding our way to our hotel later that night after we landed and had dinner! I used Franson GPSGate as a util to build a virtual Com port for my USB plugged in Garmin! I've got a trial version, there's also a similar free product called xport that I haven't messed with yet. I had to change my Garmin to Nema format data, and not Garmin Prop. data format. But, worked like a charm! It doesn't have voice turn by turn commands, so I think I'll be getting a nuvi 2xx or similar for my traveling.

I also found a great GPS site, called www.GPSpassion.com with tons of gps info.

Garth,
Thanks for the info. Waiting to hear when Jim will have them in stock.

I haven't been to the Garmin site yet. I was looking for Priest Lake in Northern Idaho. Last time I was at West Marine about three weeks ago they said yes, it's in the maps now. So we walked over to a Garmin 430 and it had the lake, but no depth or anything below the surface. If you guys have one of the newer units and can actually see contours lines indicating it's added, let me know! They even looked at some other company, C-map or something and it wasn't on that one either. Someday..... :-(

VT: I have an old GPS MAP 76 and it's great for roads and lakes. I haven't added the lake part because Priest Lake isn't in it! I've been thinking about getting a Bluechart CD for the San Juans to use this as a backup. We haven't settled on a REAL Garmin Chartplotter, but we're leaning towards a 540 or 545 unless I can snag a used unit somewhere that is compatible with the G2 or G2 Vision chips. I was leaning towards a 540, but now I'm thinking I should just get the 530 since that's where we spend most of our time boating. We've never been to the San Juans and are headed there this year, so I guess I'll get the inland version and just add the chip for the San Juans area.

Yeah, I dblchkd, and it indeed doesn't include depths for Priest Lake. Incredible... You'd think for the cost of the dvd it'd include all the lakes in the US data. It does call itself "inland lakes" .... not "some inland lakes" DVD.

VT, Thanks for verifying that. It's a great lake, but it would be nice to have the bottom contours. I guess I'll just have to work around it somehow. If they update the map, I'll have to send it in to get the update.

I have a Garmin with the lakes built-in, use it on the TN River and related lakes (Loudon, Watts Bar, etc). Very nice detail, I use it as my primary depth indicator, along with my "you're over it" depthfinder, as well as primary speed indicator (factory one broken- can you tell my boat is old?)

Old is a relative thing. My boats are old compared to most on the board, but there are a few even older. Hmm, interesting idea for a poll.....
