All,

Just got a 2006 Sea Ray 195 sport and it came with the garmin. It is mounted on dash nice, but I can't get the unit to turn on. I know it could be several issues but this is my first experience with a garmin on a boat. I know the unit is older, but I still would like to use it for basic fish finding, depth, temp. etc. Thanks.

Not sure of the exact model but if it has the quick release mount, then the problem may well be the plug in connections on the back.

The reason I say that is because of my recent experience. I recently purchased a boat that had a newer flat/touch screen Garmin that worked fine and an older Garmin with the quick release mount. The previous owner said it didn't work and had had his marina mechanics check it out while they were doing other things before he put the boat up for sale. I have the list of the work they did and their findings report on the Garmin. They said the unit was non functional. I had made up my mind to junk it and get another unit matching the one that worked but I was back in the back of the console digging around, straightening stuff up and while I was there thought I would just make sure there was power to that unit. There was so I tried pushing in on the power cable which does not have a containment nut but a quick release mechanism that plugs and unplugs the cable. I removed it from the bracket and plugged the cable in by itself and noticed that it went in farther than when in the bracket. I crawled out and pushed the on button and "voila", I have two Garmin. Hopefully yours will be that simple.

Thanks for the reply. That is what I'm going to check first--the connections to the display unit. I don't believe it is a quick connect, as I believe there is a nine-pin or so connector and the antenna connector going into the back of the unit.
