Hey all,
Boat show season is coming up and I am planning to replace the Raymarine C80 unit that came with the boat when I bought it. I have my eyes on a Garmin 7610xsv and will also add the radar to replace the current one.

I wanted to know if anyone had setup that unit on a 2007 Sundancer 310 and what the fit was like? I'm not planning to do the work myself, but before I pull the trigger on the unit, I wanted to get anyone's experience with the fit on my particular boat. Basically I was hoping to avoid major dash cutting/reconfigurations and would like to know if it fits cleanly with minimal modifications. Would also be interested in hearing what other options people have gone with on the 2007 310 DA.

Thanks, all!

GG

I've been looking at the same unit for my 340 ... can't offer any words of wisdom but will be following your thread with interest. Given the major drop in our dollar, this is one upgrade that will have to wait until next year.

I can't help directly with your question, but in an indirect way... If you download the manual for the unit from Garmin's website, in it (or possibly it's a separate download) will be an installation template. You print that out, and you'll have a actual size template for the "cut-out"... the "hole" you'll need to cut in your dash. There will also be sizes/dimensions listed so you can see how deep it would go into/behind the dash. You can then compare that to your dash and you'd know for sure if it would fit.

Don't know about an '07 310 but I put that unit in my '05 340 last spring.
Fits nicely but the entire "wood grain" panel is now replaced with the unit.

Good replies, all. I will keep the thread going as I learn more in hopes of helping others! Looks like a nice device.

GG, I also have your boat, but with outdrives. Here is a link to my story, and I'm sure you'll be interested. I wanted to originally replace my system view, and all hell broke loose after that. ; ) Don't worry about the panel.... as that can also be replaced by ordering one from the OEM. Like Dennis said, just download the template for the unit from Garmin.

By the way, I have played around with the Garmin and it is a top-notch unit. You'll love it. I have a picture of my dash on the 11th post and the end diagram showing all my improvements in post #14.

Have fun.

7608 is the largest size unit that will fit in my dash where the C80 is. I plan on doing the swap this spring.
Can you take a shot of that and post it?

Great, Mike. I will definitely read that thread from top to bottom. I'm sure I'll have questions after that and will look forward to seeing the photos of your upgrades. Stay tuned for my questions :)

Thanks, sarbog, for the photo. My dash is laid out a little differently than that, with more focus in the center area below the steering wheel, but I have to say, that looks great on your boat!

Just a very small amount of trimming needed. No real "cutting". All in all I was pleasesd how it came out and I love the unit and 10" screen. Still learning how much it can do. next up is to add radar this year.

Thats great to hear. Glad I didn't make the purchase yet. I also plan on getting the radar too. (open array). Looks like i'll have to get a different mount for the anchor lite mast as the open array will hit it.

I'm also considering replacing the C80. Yesterday at the Seattle boat show, spent time at the Garmin, Raymarine, and Simrad booths, trying to work through all the details. I need to replace the radar unit, as it's analog and doesn't work with any of the new chartplotters, but it sounds like I can reuse the sonar transducer with an inexpensive adapter.

The Garmin setup seems to have some advantages, including the fact that I get a 20-25% discount through my employer, but also they use standard ethernet cables to connect the components together, and the rep said they have worked hard to maintain compatibility with older components, including radar from 2008. He said that GPSMAP 7607xsv was a very close fit to the C80, and would require minor trimming of the dash panel to fit. He had another suggestion, which was to go with 2 of their 7" units, rather than 1 10", as this gives you more real estate for two different views. PC chart plotting software is free.

Raymarine left me unimpressed, both because of my experiences with the C80, their support, and their crappy software. But their new radar uses WiFi to connect to the chartplotter, so no new cables need to be run.

I really liked the interface on the Simrad, however the unit still has buttons and a joystick, which requires a bigger hole.

My next step is to visit my friend's boat, where he just installed the Garmin setup.

Boat show this weekend...also considering two garmin 7" units as an alternative to one 10"

Will let you know if I pull the trigger!

If you're trying to put the 7610xsv in that center panel behind the steering wheel, I'm betting it will NOT fit. Here's why:

I have a 320 and since the Balt Boat Show I've been trying to see what I could fit in that same center panel. I don't know if our center panels are the same size or not, but here's what I learned: I pored over the 320 forum page on CSR and found some pics other owners had of their dashes. I saw a pic of a 320 with the C80 mounted in the center panel, behind the steering wheel. Because the panel isn't rectangular (it curve down at the top as you get close to the left and right sides), the C80 just squeezed in there. Any unit that was wider than the C80 couldn't be as tall, or it wouldn't fit.
So I went to the Raymarine web site and looked up manuals for their old legacy units. Downloaded the C80 manual and looked at the dimensions. The C80 is 10" across by 7" tall. The 7610xsv is 11.4" across but 8.1" tall. So it would probably fit (height-wise) at the middle of the MFD, but at the left and right edges it will be too tall because of the curvature of the panel.

Now, my disclaimer: my 320 is a 2003. You have a 2007 310. So your panel dimensions might not be the same. I'd scour the 310 pages on CSR and see if people have pictures of their dashes. And then look up the dimensions for their units and compare to the Garmin. At the end of the day, you should take the advice above and print out the template and visit the boat. Or, just visit the boat with a tape measure. But if you can't get ther easily right now, I stand by my math! :)

In my case, the fact that I can't fit an 8" or 10" display in that panel is a good thing. It means my panel and my wallet are in agreement.

The largest my center panel and wallet can accept is the 741xs.

I'm still thinking about doing what sarbog did and putting a larger MFD in that left/port helm panel. But for me, that's too outside my immediate field of view to be feasible. Of course, if it were large enough, maybe it would be!

I hope this helped!
