Hi All,

I am hauling the first week of March and I want to upgrade my transducers. Have been told I could replace my transducers and the GSD 22 Sounder Network Module with a new chartplotter with integrated sounder/transducer support.

I also have perfectly functional Garmin 5212.

Can I put a Garmin 743xsv in a blank spot on my dash and hook it up to the NMEA 2000 and use that as the sounder/fish finder and still have depth data pushed back to the 5212?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, I had, up to this past year, a 4212, 7608xsv and a 1243 and everything played nice together and worked. I removed the GSD22, but that also worked as well. I removed the GSD and 4212 this past summer for a second 1243xsv and every thing still works fine.

Keep in mind that the 743xsv only supports one transducer. If your going to keep the 5212 you might want to keep the GSD for a second transducer.

@SKybolt, thx!

Better question, do you have a recommendation on a configuration for what I am doing? Don't want to change out the 5212, but want a better performing sounder/transducer. I can see both of my transducers in my forward bilge.

As it is now, they aren't the best at seeing depth at low speed maneuvering which is not awesome in the Destin area. Also, they suck compared to modern fish finders out in the Gulf.

Yep, that's why I pulled the GSD22. It's not necessarily the transducers per se', it's the GSD22 is so bad at rendering a good picture. The 743xsv supports any of the more modern transducers and is a good choice for viewing the bottom. I am not sure if the 5212 will pick up the sonar picture over the Garmin Marine Network or not, but it will pick up the depth transmitted by the 743xsv. Adding more then one transducer to the system would require adding a NMEA2000 transducer that would only before depth. It may not be worth adding two transducers and only getting one that will perform well for the 743.
