My legacy Raytheon analog radar probably won't last much longer. I'm thinking of adding a new Garmin digital radar to my existing Garmin 740 chartplotter. I'm concerned that the 7" screen on the 740 may be a bit too small to display the radar image in a meaningfull manner.
Can anyone advise me on this.

This is one of those things where size really does matter. Your screen will work, but you'll miss out on some of the detail. Especially if you go with an HD radar.

Yea, I was thinking that too.
I wonder if a '99 Raytheon RL 80C Chartplotter and radar is worth anything.

Mine works great for me. I have run in overlay mode most of the time until recently. Split screen mode works fine as well. For the money (vs 5008 display) and space constraints it was a good match for me. I don't run a ton at night, but if I'm underway the RADAR is on.

I will probably wait until the radar goes before making a final decision. I don't use the Raytheon chart plotter but I do use the radar. I love the touch screen of the Garmin 740 and don't really feel the need for a bigger screen when using it as a chart plotter. Thanks for every ones input.
