Garmin 540s vs. Humminbird 587ci combo

I need to buy a unit that has a GPS, fishfinder & depth sounder all in one unit. I went to a local store here and was told to buy the Humminbird over the Garmin. The guy at the store says its as good and $400.00 cheaper.

Please help!!!

Greetings,
Check the specifications closely. Especially the part on the built in maps, unless you are buying a chip for it (Not too familiar with that particular Hummingbird model, but here's what happened to me. I had a boatload of "miles" on my Laquinta account and got a couple hundred dollars in Bass Pro gift cards. Not being familiar with anything other than the old handheld magellen I asked one of the yahoos working there what unit would suffice for cruising the ICW and drinking beer and he told me the 383C. I bought it. Come to find out the preloaded maps only had a 4nuatical miles acuuracy. What that meant was when using the preloaded maps and cruising the ICW, the ICW didn't even show up on the screen. It looked like I was cruising on land just off the ocean. The sonar part worked well enough, but the GPS bugged me. That was the old boat. I just bought a Garmin 440s for the "new" boat, and it's much better in the GPS catagory. Haven't hooked up the sonar yet..
Just my $.02
