Gantry Ideas

Okay gents, I need some ideas. I know a few of you have built some gantry's for pulling your engines at home. I need to pull one of my engines in order to start on my new holding tank project. I know what chainfalls and straps I need, but as far as the frame work goes, if anyone has some good pics, or mark-ups of what configuration works best, it would be greatly appreciated. I really wish I had an overhead crane, but I'm too cheap for that. So, I'm looking into wood beams, the main cross beam is the one I'm most concerned with, 6x4? be strong enough to support a 4.3L V-6? Like I said, pics would be welcomed!:smt100

go to harbour freight and have a gander at the one they sell.I would use an i-beam on the top and 4x4,s for the legs though.should be able to pick up a used i beam cheap from a demolished building or something .

Get a local wrecker service to come out and they can lift an engine out in a few minutes with a boom and set it on the ground for a few bucks. Call them again when its time to reinstall the engine.

Thanks, I've seen this and KC-Sundancers as well. I will be buying materials soon to get this project underway. I keep getting side tracked with other disasters, and planning with the boat. Never enough time....or money.
