One of my burner switches is bad and the other one isn't great. I went to replace them and it ends up being $100. When the whole stove can be replaced for $300, I have to think twice on a 24 year old stove.
My question is whether or not there is a better way. Whether it's replace the switches or the whole thing.
I found exactly what I'd like to replace it with for $200, but it is slightly too small. ~1". I'd make a lip for it to sit on, but I'd rather it looked factory in the counter. Here is the one I'd like with digital versus mechanical switches. I know I can get a Kenyon similar to it, but it's like three times as much. We don't use it much, but I want it working.

Here is my original Kenyon set up with 6" & 8" burners:

So why won't the one you like work? 1" can be made up by putting a fir strip to make the "hole" smaller and then add the gel coat to the edge of the new mount. If it's 1" on two sides then you could push the stove to the corner where the bars are and do the fill at the back and side.

I'm not a fiberglass guy yet. I've done what your describing for other things, but this would be too visual. I want it to look right. I get what you're saying, but execution probably wouldn't have been where I wanted.
It turns out that an hour after I posted this I found a similar one that should fit. I've been looking for months lol It ended up even cheaper so we'll see what it looks like when it gets here. Normally $175, but Warehouse deal for $105.

At least you have a good one. I'm SOL on mine as it is the Kenyon alcohol/electric with no way to rebuild it. And with no gennie, I don't want an all electric. This damn thing has only been used a few times as it's not even heat stained. But the seals are gone and dried up bad.

That gel coat repair would be very easy. any part that shows is a "shadow from the stove". :D I felt that I wasn't going to be able to fix Maxum dash inserts. But its all flat so it is pretty easy as long as you have the gel coat raised above the existing area. I found that over filling the spot by a double layer of masking tape was just enough. Peel off a layer of the tape and sand with a very hard sanding block to keep it level. BTW I hated those Maxum boats. Deck hatches, dashes, swim platforms and ski lockers. All a pain the butt to make perfect to their standards. They put them together and they looked like crap.

Ha! Shadow from the stove. I like it. I just haven't gotten edjumacated on fiberglass yet. It's coming. I have a couple repairs I want to make.
So with your seals dried up and it being in otherwise good condition, can't you rebuild it? I know you said you can't, but why?
My boat is set up for a Genset, but it was missing when I bought the boat. I'm going to sell or trade the Kohler 8eozd I have for a 4kw or 5kw at some point. I can't even use my a/c yet!

The other thing I'm doing is cleaning up the metal trim on the outside of the fridge. The fridge works well, but the trim was starting to rust. I media blasted it last night and painted it gloss black. It came out real nice. I'm looking forward to getting it all back together. Having a big blast cabinet filled with aluminum oxide comes in real handy.

I have tried to find out what the seals and other small parts are and Kenyon said they would happily let me pay for an all electric one. I looked for several months to fin anybody that might have the rebuild kits and I would match everything up and get several "kits" together. But I have found it to be easier to find magical unicorn poop in the ultra rare chartreuse glitter. Someday.

PM me and I will get you my phone number and can walk you through the repair process.

Have you tried Soda in it yet? Works pretty good and it doesn't hurt as bad when you dump it.

Thank you. I'll keep your offer in mind. Sounds like you're in the market for a new stove... Too bad. There's really nothing to them. The profit margin must be huge at Kenyon.
Soda in my media blaster? Not for what I use it for. Aluminum oxide works great. After testing a few different types of media, it's what I ended up using when I restored my 69 Camaro. Unless I went with vapor blasting I don't think I'd see better results than with what I use now.

If you ever want hazelnut hulls, let me know. It's used for landscaping and such, there is so much here. It's extremely cheap. Harder than walnut.

We picked up a couple butane stoves for $15 each on a great sale. Plan on using that until we can get the seals. Made a table for the back for the wife to cook on the transom and to keep it from inside.

Thanks. Nutshells work well in the blasters, but I find my alum oxide is good for many different things. Not for one type of project. It works well for me so that's what I stick with.
The transom table is on my list of things to do. It's tempting to not reinstall the stove and just go with a magma or something, but I like having everything that was factory installed work. I think it will help if I go to sell it when I get the twofootitis in a couple of years lol

Just putting out the options.

I like the factory options to work too. The stoves seem to have been a big problem for boats. I sure wish there was better options.

And I appreciate the option suggestions.
I think I'll be happy with the stove that shows up. It doesn't need to be anything super special. Especially with the number of time I'll probably end up using it.
