I'm looking at purchasing a 530 since we do most of our boating on inland lakes and rivers. We'll add a G2 Vision card for the San Juan area. My question is this, does the G2 allow you to automically calculate your routes OUTSIDE the area contained on the chip? So if I want to put in a route from point A to Point B on an inland lake, I'm guessing I'd have to have the chip for that area in order for this to work? I would probably leave the San Juan chip in the unit and wondered if this was probable??

Thanks for your help!

Sundancer,

The g2 vision card will not calculate routing with the auto-guidance feature in areas outside of the chip. I've tried it with my 430.

That's kind of what I figured! Thanks for the reply.

I just ordered the 545s from Jim here at BOE.

I also ordered the G2 Vision chart because he said that Garmin had a $200 rebate when you buy a GPS.

The Vision card I ordered is actually a Chart in the Canadian section.

The card # is Garmin's G2 Vision Card VCA001R
You'll see that it goes as far south into the states as Mt Vernon, covers all the San Juans and the areas we'll be traveling in for this upcoming trip. Yes I will travel the Southern part of Puget sound, but I feel the preinstalled info on the 545 will be suffice for those areas.

We mainly travel in the Northern Sound (in the Above G2's) area more often
