My wife and I just signed a contract on a 2001 400 Sedan with Cat 3126's, 675 hrs. Its the middle of the winter here on the Chesapeake and the boat is put away for the winter, so it will be mid-March before we can proceed with the survey and sea trial. Lets keep our fingers crossed all goes well in March. We are moving up from a 2003 Cruisers 3372 and the family can't wait to have some room to spread out a little. This site has been a big help in the decision making process. I look forward to contributing here.

Congrats and welcome! Great boat for sure. You will love it then want a 480DB in a few years...

Thank you everyone.

We are really looking forward to the move to diesels. Gotta lot to learn with them, but have already learned a lot here and boatdiesel. This one has the 420hp 3126 CATS. I see lots of reports on fuel burn/cruise speeds on the lower hp ones, but does anyone have real numbers for these? DavidBukstel, I see you have the same hp engines.

And yes spring can't get here soon enough for us!

Hi jimt3. I was not shopping for the 420hp version model on my 400 sedan bridge but am quite pleased with the performance. Our primary focus other than diesels was the 3 stateroom layout. I purchased the boat end of July 2014. During the sea trial we hit 30 knots at 2780 rpm with full fuel, full water, 5 adults and my 13 year son aboard. On the cruise from coral gables to Fort Lauderdale we cruised at about 23 knots at about 2300 rpm with flat seas. We've done a lot if intracoastal cruising so I don't have a firm grasp of fuel consumption. However, I have 50 hours on the boat since the sea trial and still have about 85 gallons left in the tanks assuming the gauges are somewhat accurate. My last boat, a 40' silverton aft cabin gasser, struggled at a 13 knot cruise and was a regular at the fuel dock. I did prepare a spreadsheet on fuel burn from the CAT data sheet on the marine 3126 420 hp engine and would be happy to share it with you.
