I have 10 speakers on the boat want to be able to have the music on the platform high while the cockpit low, is this all done with the amps? Do I have to change out the existing speakers?

Zone volume control is mainly done pre-amp. However, the speakers need to be separated by amps, in order to have the zone control. In other words, if you have a 4 chnl amp, you can 2 stereo zones. chnls 1&2 are one zone and 3&4 are the other zone. Depending on the head unit, you could have up to 4 zones.

Wylie is right. I had a Fusion 700AV on my 52' CPMY and used all 4 zones. You can control all zone volumes from the head, a wired remote or, my favorite, the app. Using the app is great because you have a remote everywhere you have a smart phone or an iPad. You don't have to use zone amps to make the zones function but you will like the sound better if you do. Fusion makes a zone amp but power needed will depend on the speakers you will be driving.

I just installed my 2nd Fusion and it is a great system to control zones. You can also add a sub to any zone also to free up you other zones. You do need a adapter but the stereo does come with one.

I have a 4-zone amp. HUGE difference on the boat. I split the cockpit into two zones. The speakers at the base of the arch point directly at people's ears, so that previously dictated music volume. Now I can keep those lower and bump the others, including the sub.

At the dock, I often keep my plotter on as a 12" touchscreen control for audio. Sometimes it's easier to step over to the plotter to make an adjustment than it is to use the app.

Question for you on your set up. Can you tell me how you ran the NMEA200 cable from the head unit to the helm? what was the easiest route? Im going to be doing this in a week and would like to know how someone else did that already.
Also, are your amps tied to a specific battery bank or are they coming off the power buss bar behind the panel?

Thank you

I have a 400, so my cabinet layout is different, but the cables run from the fwd cabinet in the salon, behind the next two cabinets, alongside the elec panel up through a chase next to the helm, accessed at the helm courtesy of the subwoofer cutout. The amps are powered directly from the stbd/house bank, with a fuse block mounted on the ER bulkhead.
