Fusion Radio Install in 410 Sundancer front cabin?

Called Crutchfield and they were pretty excited about the Apollo and confirmed that you can stream over WiFi. I ordered one and I’ll get it installed.

The question I have is will I need a remote on the helm. I’m going to see how the app works, and if acceptable, leave it at that. If not, I might add the wired remote. I think it might fit in the same place the old round clarion remote fit. The other option is to remove the rn300 and put it there as John suggested.

Next is to add the TV in the cockpit and get it wired in. Looking forward to football season!

Longer term is to get the electronics pod redone with a new MFD, but that’s a bigger project for a later date. Guys on the dock are using Simrad and liking it a lot.

I can show you how to distribute any HDMI (DirectTV, AppleTV, FireTV, etc) output to all the TVs on the boat using the existing COAX. I have it running off the boat right now and waiting for install.

Also check out the Raymarine Axioms - I just installed a dual head with Quantum Radar and love it. All networked and super easy to operate. Even transferred over my existing transducer! I should be posting my write up soon.

I’d love to see that!

I think the local distributor has been giving some hot pricing. I have raymarine now so I’ll have to do a comparison when I get to that project

It's a real cool product (that we are also a dealer for). Basically takes a HDMI input and outputs a 1080p broadcast via the COAX (on a programmable channel). Once it's up an running you just need to plug it into a COAX hub and have your TV scan for channels. Then tune to the channel and you are watching the output. Any TV on the COAX should be able to tune it and watch at the same time. If you needed multiple sources you can have multiple converters and they can each be on a separate channel.

+1 on wanting to see how that works - please share. We have Comcast TV wired at the dock, and coax wired to three tvs on the boat, so I'd love to be able to feed another signal into the system.

Dtfeld, I think you are also on Lanier. We are at Holiday and I am happy to show you the Fusion/Garmin/TV nonsense I procrastinated on for several months. I used the app for about six months and it was good but like another member said, the mfd as a remote is awesome. I just saw today that you can download playlists and music to an sd card and use the mfd like a media server, so that is something else I want to try. If you don't need all the bells and whistles and don't want to spend a fortune, that RA70N has worked well for me. Let me know and I'm happy to help.

Dtfeld I'm no electronics guru and can't even really explain how all this works hence why I had a professional install everything. I just wanted to let you know that my Fusion RA70N is mounted in the cabin inside the cabinet where your speaking and the BT works fine with all doors closed. I usually have my phone laying on the ledge under the chart plotter streaming music with no problem. I have the Fusion remote mounted right where the old clarion remote was. Here's a few pictures of after the install. I removed all the old electronics and slide the autopilot all the way to the left so it evened the dash out and gave me room to install other stuff later on between it and new Garmin VHF. Products installed were Fusion stereo, amp, remote, Infinity speakers, and Garmin chart plotter, radar, VHF, transducer

OOOHHH!!! Boat Porn!!! Nice layout!! Jealous. Mine is all original so looking at a retrofit may next year. New plotter, radar, new instrument panel (like to add some instrumentation to the transmissions, a huge oversight on these models) and move things around to my liking.

For now, I'll accept a new radio.

DTFeld, your post got me thinking about using a wifi option for my 755. I grabbed an old Linksys wireless router and a couple of ethernet cables and plugged my 755 into the router. Obviously no internet. Set up a new network name and password, and the 755 is hardwired on the network. Connected my phone wirelessly, and the distance limitation is gone. Easy. Now I just need to figure where I can hide the router while still having access to an ac outlet...

Interesting. The 755 and the Apollo unit seem pretty close in capability if that's the case.

I am thinking through my router options and mounting location. I am trying to use a jetpack for data, and integrating that is not the easiest or cleanest solution. I guess the two options currently are to hard wire it into an on board PC and let the PC share the internet connection, or use the Ubiquiti Bullet to access the Jetpack and linked to a traditional 12v Netgear router. Verizon doesnt have clean solutions as ATT. But Im not changing just for that.

So...

Internet-->AC791L-->PC-->wired/wireless-->TV's/iPads

or

Internet-->AC791L-->Ubiquity Bullet-->Netgear Router-->PC/TV's/Ipads

I want the Wi-fi in the Radar Arch and I think that will get me the best range in and around the boat.

You might try just putting the router in the cabin first and see what kind of range you get, before you run any cables. I was able to walk down the dock and still have a wifi connection with no problem. I didn't test the outside limit, but I'm heading up to the boat today and will do that.

Yeah...I'm been mulling over where to stash the equipment. I need to get a few cornerstone pieces of equipment in place and then start working out the details.

The jetpack doesn't get great reception downstairs, so I'm thinking that needs to go on the arch with an external antenna.

I'll put the Ubiquity Bullet up top as well.

I think I'll do some temporary mounting to try out some different configurations

Hey @yobub - I recently did such a project which included hooking in the Fusion to the network. This did allow control of the Fusion over WiFi. I documented the install w photos here:

Speakers on bow question? - My wife and our friends enjoy hanging out on our bow - especially when we are just at the slip. I’ve received multiple feedback (complaints) that they can’t hear the music up there. I have 2 unused zones on my Fusion. Has anybody installed speakers on (or facing) the bow? Ideas I have include 1) wireless or Bluetooth 2) temp removable/“plug in as needed” or 3) permanent wired outdoor speakers. Would love to hear everybody’s ideas?

Maybe two exterior marine speakers mounted on the arch and facing the bow?
I’ve got a zone on my fusion that I’m not using and have thought about doing that for when my kids hang out on the bow with their friends or when I’m cleaning the boat.

Something like this?

These are in a separate zone on my Fusion 755.

Update, wifi range from my boat in the harbor is about 100 feet, with a few boats in the way. This is in an old Cisco home router. Controlling via wifi on the boat really works well. For me, much better than bluetooth.

I really like that @yobub. Do you know manufacturer / model?

JL Audio Speakers with enclosure: https://www.abt.com/product/90800/J...hite-Enclosed-Tower-Coaxial-System-91395.html

JL Audio Chrome Mounts: https://www.abt.com/product/90857/JL-Audio-Enclosed-Speaker-System-Clamps-MMCPV3DM.html

I didn't install them - the previous owner did, but I did pull them down and then reinstall after transport. They look really nice, really fit the radar arch well but stay below the radar array (at least with my set up).

I have a zone on my set up with the front facing speakers as well as the speakers in the transom facing aft (party zone) and it works really well.

You probably have many options if you look for wakeboard tower speakers, but this size and shape fits a 400/410 nicely.

For what it's worth I just installed a Fusion head unit and am using the app as a remote. It's not particularly useful. You need to "wake up" your phone each time you want to adjust volume and the slider bars (at least on the phone version) are pretty small and not super easy to use without fine motor control.

After two weekends with the app I've added the remote, NEMA cord and power pigtail to my Amazon wishlist for winter. As you've mentioned the only challenge may be the location. I think the Fusion may be a bit crowded where my Clarion remote currently is (next to shifters)...
