Just a little update if anybody is interested

Here is the email I got back from fusion.

Hello Jonathan,

Your unit will be leaving*today. The radio had a lot of corrosion on the PCB so it was replaced.

Really corrosion on a brand new unit. Im very disappointed. Not sure I will ever use them again

Wow I'm disappointed, but glad for you I really wanted to replaced Clarion with the fusion 700 so I could have separate zones, iPhone integration etc,,,

I'd email them back and state it was brand new, never on the water and ask how could corrosion be the problem.

I would too...

I have had the AV/700 over a year and LOVE IT. I'd like to know what is going on...

I already sent them an email asking why a brand new unit would have that bad of corrosion issues.

Keep in mind I did buy it off of amazon but was labeled as a brand new unit not refurbished but who knows. Thats what happens when you try to go cheep I guees.

Whatever hopefully all is well with the new one. Will keep you posted with there response to my email

No answer to my last email but the new one works great. I love the vhf option crystal clear and the ipad app is awsome. Not to mention the sounds and power it puts out with no external amp with the polk speakers is both crystal clear and very loud. Just need a sub but that's next year.
All together im very happy and it was well worth the wait

I would be really concerned and am extremely interested to know, how and why it had corrosion, and why Fusion would even put that in an email.

The standard with Marine electronics is to generally coat the circuit boards with a conformal coating, this prevents any moisture ingress into the board or components. Also adds an extra protection against vibration.

If their boards are not treated, then they are no better than a run of the mill automotive deck.

If I had to guess, I would bet the board got exposed to sea air on the freighter over from whatever south-east asian company they use to make it, before it got any treatment (if they do) with a conformal coating. It's not uncommon for a container to get breached or drenched, depending on the weather during the ride.

They did not answer my email on why or how it was sobadly corroded but as for being a stand up company Ido agree. the customer support was great via email. Phone service bout sooooooo much but very helpfull and fast via email. Good luck with the install and enjoy.

Check this out...

I had the Fusion 700 installed so that I could control it from my new Raymarine e125 MFD. It's a very cool feature.

However... the Fusion 700 turns itself on along with the e125. Yes, if I leave the breaker for the stereo on, both units turn on randomly. No rhyme or reason to it.

To manage this quirk, I just leave the stereo breaker off when I'm not using it. Not difficult. Just annoying that it doesn't work properly.

Oh, and if you're wondering, Raymarine has not been at all helpful -- thus far :)

I wish I would have known all this before I purchased it. I did my research becore the purchase and really didn't find to many negative comments. Guess its stilp to new? Well whatever what's done is done and as for now I really enjoy the volume and clarity it puts out without an amp.love the option to use my ipad as a remote and love the vhf option. So for know im happy.

The fusion, units get great reviews I don't understand where these problems are coming from? This is the first time hearing this about them. I want to install one for he same reasons, but am hesitant now,,,,,, ps, I'd love to switch my entire boat to Garmin, and throw the Raymarine stuff in the dumpster in the marina!!!!!!!!

Joe remeber I ordered off of amazon to save a couple bucks so who knows were it was or if it was even new. I think if you buy it new you will be ok and if you do decide to buy it. Call me befor you do.
So what your sayin is next spring when I upgrade all my electonics go with garmin not ray?

i'd say Garmin
Pound for pound better bang for your buck!
