trying to figure out fuel smell in battery compartment no fuel leaks anywhere?

Sender gasket loose or failing. Fittings at tank. Odor permeation through lines. Leak at engine fittings. Unless you're confusing it with battery acid smell.

Check fuel fill hose.

Wife and I filled up a couple weekends ago before heading 20mins down river to anchor. Right away I smelled raw fuel so I left the blowers on and went into the engine compartment to investigate. A fuel leak is one of my biggest fears when boating.
Turns out my fill hose was cracked and leaking! Not too shocking considering they are 17yrs old. Towed back to the dock and younger (smaller framed) brother came down to help remove and replace them.
I bought enough hose to replace both fuel tanks.
Glad I did,...Look at the pics to see how bad they actually were. Fuel probably sat in the bends when tanks were full and the boat is on plane.
I admit they look a heck of a lot worst once they were removed from the engine compartment. Now I have most of my marina buddies inspecting their lines too.

If you are mechanically gifted you can do your own lines, IF not hire someone who is.

Gasoline, batteries, and boats work very well until a gas line leaks.
