They're saying on the news here that gas will hit $5 by July.

And you guys made fun of me when I started buying scooters.

Guess who is laughing at who now ??. . I can go all month on $10 worth of gas. :smt001

......I'm still laughing, Wayne!!! :) All in good fun, of course!! They're like fat women. Fun to ride until your friends catch you on one!!

$5.00 is my pain threashold. We hit that two years ago on our trip to Cincy. This trip when I first took it when gas was $1.79 was a good time when it cost us $1695.00 for gas last time my wife and I decided that we would like to make several smaller trips. Looks like the "small trip" is going to be the thing to do this year.

Monaco my man.........Yeah, I know about today.....but I am fairly certain that I read an article a year or more ago, that described that entire region as having potentially more oil deposits, still in the ground, than all of Saudi Arabia; so the question was; what does Afghanistan have to do with oil, and my reply to that question, was, I think it has alot to do with oil; I think, I haven't bothered researching the topic beyond the original article, the entire "stan" region is perhaps all about oil, not today's oil, but tomorrow's oil.....so "control" of that region, isn't only, about spreading around Western charm.....it's mostly, I think, about oil....my facts may or may not be perfectly accurate....I really don't care....chatting on these threads, is 100% amusement, a friendly pastime.... if I'm relatively accurate, with my facts, that's good enough for me.....I am not trying to insult, embarrass, or, make someone else feel stupid :smt089....we are having a conversation, a dialogue, if it's interesting, IMO, it works....it's fun, if we were all standing in a group, an observer, would say we are bullsh**ing....I think my story is fairly accurate, but really, who cares????:smt043:smt043:smt043

This chart shows that in the last 30 years U.S. oil production has fallen from nearly 9 million barrels a day in 1980 to 5.4 million in 2010. Why. I thought the Bushes were "oil men" and were rigging the system for the oil industry but somehow production fell.

. . .and yet profits are at record highs. Hmmmm. Maybe it is more rigged than you think?

. . .I seem to recall that they were saying the same thing last year.

Gas at $5 would put a real hurt on the economy. Triple dip? (just what certain presidential candidates need to take it over the goal line!)

President to give a major speech tomorrow on energy and gas prices..........

We had a major fire at a BP refinery in Washington state. An official in Portland stated on the radio this morning that they will raise gas prices by $.05 a gallon, if the public does not reduce demand, they will raise it another $.05. If the public doesn't get it, then prices will rise $0.20 a gallon and then maybe the public will get the message and start taking the bus!

Socialism at its best!

As I said before. We have our little boat & scooters so I'm good to go if gas goes to $5 or more ??.:smt001

I suppose a person could think that if the USA was the only location that had oil.

The reality is oil companies make much less than many industries in margin as their "profits" are on volume. The internet connection you are using has over twice the profit margin of the oil industry.

Here we go again, if W E must reduce demand then howcome the NUMBER ONE EXPORT OF THE UNITED STATES IS O I L. I must be a few hotdogs shy of a picnic.

I will buy the stuff and pour it on the ground and let the other bastards cut THEIR demand. Don't threaten me with shortages and supply and demand issues if our nation has enough product to ship it out regardless of how common ordinary families are hurting. There is something really wrong with this nation and the Dept of Energy.

I wonder what set of laws they are using. . . . . .

Or are they imposing a special tax? More likely whacky tobaccy is involved.

The wiring to my house is 30 years old. If the oil company were operating on half the profit margin of my internet provider. . . . . . . . that industry would be much more profitable than it is.

Hmmm. . . .huge volumes with middling profit margin -> this is why I am invested in oil stocks :)

BTW: What are we arguing about again? Let's talk that over the next beer!

The network, communications, and internet services have a 20% margin per Fortune for 09 the latest year I saw.

I just told the Admiral I thought it would be fun to have that beer, debate you in person maybe even over a good scotch.
