I'm no rocket scientist but I think my memory still functions. Just within the last two weeks it was announced on all news media that our largest export in America is petroleum products. Now tonight they announce on the evening news that gasoline is expected to have a significant upward spike and we may be paying more for gas by Memorial Day than we have ever paid!! Increase demand is blamed for the rise. Now wait just a moment. We are exporting more oil than ever before and now we have rising prices as a result. Here is a great idea. Lets stop exporting oil. Of course it's an election year and wild things will happen between now and November.
I would expect a huge decrease in prices about two months before the election so the politicans can get re-elected. They will look so good if prices roll back to say $3.00 a gallon.

I feel so manipulated. All the political puke in Washington have to do is put a huge export tax on oil and we can grow our economy with cheaper prices. The upcoming boating season looks bleak.

This year won't be so bad. stop watching the news, it'll stress you out. I stopped watching the news 3 years ago.

gas prices have never been higher in January than they are right now. High prices are just what the eco weenies want so we won't drive anywhere. In the 80s and 90s the oil companies quietly closed refineries in the name of the environment so they could lower supply and increase demand. We are being screwed by our elected officials who don't really understand how high oil and gas prices affect working families. One bright spot is the price of natural gas. Too bad there is very little interest in fueling our cars with that. I bet Obama will cave in to the environmentalists on the Keystone pipeline. God forbid we get oil from Canada instead of OPEC.

Fuel is just part of it. Guess I will be Running around more in the searay and not the formula Fastech this summer.

I must have woke up in another country...

"We" don't export petroleum products and "we" don't own any refineries. They are made by private companies and not "the people." Given that, private companies are going to sell their products to the highest bidder...

The name of my boat is Last Dollar and the inspiration for that name came at the fuel pumps..................when gas hit $2.00 a gallon. Maybe I will rename my boat "Last Cent." Sad part of this is I'm willing to spend it all to remain a boater.

Boat fuel is the least of my worries...I drive 100 miles per day to ad from work to support my boat habit
And to make a living
At 4 dollars per gal ...I spend 20% of myh takehome on fuel to drive to work..but it is what it is..no decent pay where I choose to live

I guess compared to a 340 a jet ski burns less fuel. My friends jet ski has an 18 gallon tank and burns more gph of gas than my 205 sport. I don't mind buying gas for my boat. Fueling my car and truck is what gets me upset.
It is what it is.Boating never was cheap. Will spend a little more time at the dock or on the jet ski.

It's an election year....fuel prices will stay lower....that's my story, and I'm sticking to it....

The U.S. needs the Key stone pipe line now : not after the election. Wife and I are retired and save our funds to burn a lot of gas during the summer: bring it on.

Every year, there are doomsday predictions for memorial day gas prices. You can find many on this forum. It could be amusing.

"We" meaning the United States! Export and import duties are supposed to protect our citizens and provide a level playing field. Our taxes provide a safe manufacturing environment for industry. EPA regulations add considerable amounts to the price of completed products. Seems to be a real shame to refine all this product and then ship it out to the highest bidder while "we" or Americans suffer greatly. If the political puke in Washington wanted to grow the economy they would enact legislation that would give us the best price break at the refinery. There is a lot going on that most of us cannot even comprehend. When did Paul Harvey die? I want to hear the "rest of the story."

Just throttle back and enjoy the ride. I went most of 2011 on my fill up in 2010. It wasn't until I took a big trip that I had to fill the tanks. My fuel bill is pretty low just compared to a slip. I don't like spending $1200 to fill my tanks, but I REALLY don't like spending $1200 to park my boat every month. And I REALLY REALLY don't like spending $1100/month in property tax. Fuel seems like a bargain in comparison. It's expensive, no doubt, but if I didn't have an escape like I do with my boat, I'd probably be one of those guys you see on the corner of Broadway holding a pile of crap in his hand yelling at people. Next plan is to break free of land and live on a boat and roam the world like a nomad. But instead of holding crap in my hand and yelling at the world, i hope to hold a few fish and yell at blow boaters.

I know what you meant by "we." My point is the "United States" doesn't own oil refineries or oil companies, etc. You suggesting that the US government determine what companies can make and who they can sell it to? Read a history book... that doesn't work. When I manufacture products, I don't want some bone head saying I can't sell it where I want to... You think forcing me to sell my products only in the US will make me lower my prices? Huh?

I bet it goes down in price before the elections, it did in the last one.

Ok Here's what it is, BOATING... it's going to be expensive this year, just like last year, so Throttle back, Quit bitching and Pay the frickin Bill....Here's an Idea Throw your cell phone away and save 150.00 a month for Gas or Fuel....Imagine that!!!! What a freakin Good Idea isn't it....Have the 480, took it out every weekend last summer, sometimes couldn't because we were in storms, and spent only 2000.00 on Fuel...
About it TAZ... tell'em.... Rock their World and tell them how to spend money in fuel...
Slow down, after all what is boating all about, Spending time on the Water...that's what it's all about.

You've heard it from Your Boltman.....

Four Sons, you are correct, the US does not own oil companies, oil refineries. But companies do. It is a bigger problem. It is about CEOs who make 430 times their average worker and greed.

Yep. Fire the CEO's and fuel prices will drop like a rock!!!!

Good grief.

You need to stay away from the "Ed Show".
