We are planing a trip to Bayfield. Goderich, and Kincardin and were wondering about the cost of Canadian fuel. Anyone been up that way lately? Just wondering. We all need diesel.

OK ...... How about this. We are leaving Put In Bay on Sun. July 7th. We are traveling as A group and there are 5 boats. In the past we have always stopped at Huron for fuel. Since there are 5 of us and it's going to be on a Sunday that could take forever. Anyone have alternative stops that we could stop at in a smaller group close to Huron?

St. Clair is a good fuel stop. Have to go thru draw bridge on the half hour. And Algonac (Algonac Harbour Club) is a good alternative as well.

Stop before lake st clair in Detroit or algonac is nice but crowded for 5 boats.

Port Huron is an easy stop at the mouth of the river. Desmond Marine runs the fuel pier before the draw bridge and also the City docks and fuel pier up the river. Fuel along the Canadian side was 1.29 to 1.39 per liter Diesel (around $5 gal) last summer, while Port Huron was $3.89. We found it difficult to get cash exchanged in Canada and most credit cards charge a 2-3% fee. How far north are you running? Have a great trip!

Tick Tock Tim

Glad to see you on here. I have read your trip logs several times and we finally made the North Channel trip last summer. Your info was very helpful for a first timer.(google tim and gina) I would love to put together a log/blog like yours if I could find the time. Do you plan on any updates to your site? Thanks!

Bill

You could always have a couple boats stop in St. Clair, one in Algonac, and a couple at Port Huron. Desmonds for sure is a convenient "last stop" before the lake stop. We are heading back to North Channel in mid July (after a hiatus of 7 long years) and were going to stop at PH for gas or overnite, but I think it is the PH to Mack Sailboat race that weekend.

Yea Bill, my wife keeps buggin' me to update our site. My youtube site is a "little" more updated, but not much. I for sure will have to revisit the website after this years' trip up there. And you don't need some fancy blog, but at least share a link to some photos. I still browse the web for logs and pics of boaters trip 'Up North'.

Why not fuel up at Desmond's in Port Huron (no bridges to go through for fuel), then spend the night at Sarnia Bay Marina (right across the river from Desmond's). It's my home marina and the setting is quite nice, the water clear, the pool inviting, and three restaurants within a few minutes walk. Hey, your heading to Canada anyway - why not ayye?

We will probably stagger our stop in Port Huron. We are going to stay at Bayfield the first night and then Godrich, and then Kincardin. We'll shoot back to Sandusky from there.

I suggest to consider Algonac Harbour Club. There is lots of transient dockage unless it is all reserved for an event. Give them a call and find out. Fuel is available as well (although they were temporarily out of diesel on Saturday when we returned from Middle Bass Island).
