FUEL PRICE WTH

When we moved from the 350 to the 496 I was really concerned about fuel burn going way up. The 496 actually does better than the 350 did for normal cruising and tow sports because of the better torque. But, once you get above 3,200 RPMs the 496 is a hog. At WOT the 496 burn is about 21 gallons/hour. The 350 was more in the 13 GPH range, IIRC.
I had a 454 Corvette back in the 70's and that big block would pass anything but a gas station!

I had a 69 Chevelle with a 650HP 454 that I drag raced. 12.5:1 compression and had to run 110 octane. Back in the mid 90's it was about $4/gallon. Drove it to a local cruise joint about 8 miles from my house and went through about $20 in fuel round trip...lol. Today that would probably be about $50 for 16 miles....lol

Yeah. This is an aside, but a story about stupid people at customers. I had a sales rep working for me who got his start selling metal tube. He's a young lad, just out of school and he gets an order from a customer who wants delivery of like 12 foot long tubes in a box car. He explains that the load needs to go on a flat bed, but the customer was having none if it, insisting that it had to go in a box car. So he asks his supervisor what to do. Supervisor takes him out to the yard and asks the guys to find the ugliest box car they can and a torch. They cut the end off the box car, load the tube, weld the end back on, and paint the box car. They send the load off for delivery. About a month later he gets a call from the customer -- "How the hell did you get the tube in the box car?" :) :)
Stupid people as a customer is only the half of it.

The Supervisor should have explained that it wouldn't fit inside the door. By going thru this procedure he was merely sticking it to the customer and will never get a repeat sale.

If he worked for my company I would have fired him on the spot. No excuse for having stupid employees like that.

(PS - the story sounds bogus - I can't imagine anyone being that malicious)

Well first off it was way back in the 70s. Second off, it was explained several times to the customer representative that a box car wouldn't work. They insisted that's what the spec. required. They where stubborn and wouldn't listen. Malicious had nothing to do with it. They met the customer specifications and should get a bonus for going over and above to meet those specifications.

Gotta tell you Jim. Sometimes I'm surprised that you are a Sea Ray owner.

What DOESN'T surprise me is the total lack of customer service and employee responsibility that has evolved. Its quite difficult to hire valuable people today, much less hire anyone at all.

Also back in the 1970's, a friend worked at a steel distribution plant. Girders were color coated on the ends to distinguish the strength grade. If an order came in on a Friday afternoon and they didn't have the right size, rather than cut one they would simply substitute an in-stock lower grade and merely spray paint the end with the needed color.

Obviously, the idiot wasn't an Engineer an d had no way of knowing where the beam was to go. My buddy WAS an Engineering student, but merely a laborer at the plant, and he quit soon after because he didn't want to be part of what could end up a disaster.

HE told the story, but I'm sure the idiot would never be stupid enough to admit to it.

Jim, not to be an ass but I’d do it in a heart beat

Do what? Admit being a moron, quit, or sell the customer an inferior lower strength product?

You gotsta splain better...

Remember the old saying the customer is always right? We all know it’s not true but if the customer demands a product be shipped to them in a pictorial way, and the sales folks tell the buyer it can’t be done. The customer was dead wrong but the shipper did as he was asked. The customer is always right

Found a station that had diesel for $4.99 I plan to back tomorrow and get an extra 20g for my NewHolland.

I hope all you dorks who voted for biden are satisfied
I certainly hope they are satisfied. It's not like its a surprise. Everything done in the past year and a half was PROMISED ahead of time.

Remember back when gas was 99c a gallon, and the stations were trying to figure out how to make the pumps record $1.01 and up? My local station just decided to be proactive and they reprogrammed the pumps with an additional dollar digit.

Maybe there is some good news in all of this. Maybe all the inexperienced covid people that bought new boats won't be out this year, and the waters will be safer and less crowded.

Daughter just filled up the SeaDoo - $6.70/gal for 89 ethanol free.
Ours runs perfect on 87 E-10. Our other SC model runs just as well on it.
