FUEL PRICE WTH

True story. Took some friends out a bunch of years ago. The wife must have mentioned helping with gas a dozen times. I finally told the hubby that my boat holds 100 gallons, and it was $3.50/gal at the time. I'd be happy to fill up if she keeps insisting. She got the shut the F%$K up speech pretty quickly from him. I'd like to have her back sometime soon since I now hold 500 gallons...

Every season I usually get a newbie on the boat and invariably when I go the fuel dock, they ask if they can pay for the fuel. I tell them they do not have to pay but sometimes they try and insist. I love watching their faces as the dials spin... then they swallow hard when the pump stops. BUT Then I tell them, "Oh, that's only one tank. There is one on the other side..." and watch them freak out. When the second tank is complete, they are usually quite pale and I tell them "Remember, I told you that you do not have to pay". They then breathe a sigh of relief as I let them off the hook. I tell them that they can buy me a beer or two...

This year should be fun to see. I need to get a GoPro to film their reactions...
I think this should be a thread, guests reactions to what it actually costs to run these beasts!!!!

I never get gas with guests on board. I don’t want them to think I am wealthy, next thing they’ll be asking to borrow money.

This….100%……one less stop with land lovers who have zero boating experience is a good thing. My boat is ready to go when they walk on. I don’t want to take them to the gas or pump out dock. I’m in Wisconsin. Gas is whatever it’s gonna be. I’m going boating because in 5 or less (depending on weather) winter storage will be starring me down.

Got lucky this weekend, marina is still 4.79 for 89 with a boat us membership, and diesel was 4.49. I asked if the pump would reach my car, it was less expensive at the dock than at the pumps for both unleaded 89, and a ton less for diesel.

The marinas around us have been increasing as they get new fuel in. This may be older fuel. Although some marinas raised their price before they got new fuel.

So I have a question, just why is Diesel running so high? Gas is $4.55 Diesel is $5.65. But why is it so much more than gas?

As of today I’m going to have to add a fuel charge to my job costs. Today and yesterday burned 1/4 tank of D and 15g of gas. I am sorry to do this and feel as if I’m adding to consumers pricing pains.

For lunch today…I just paid $1.50 each for 3 tacos …… don’t tell Biden.

Hell I did that months ago…. Customers are losing their minds with price increases….

just went past the local station at lunch and regular 89 was 4.89 and diesel was 5.99

I am hearing there may be a shortage of Diesel coming -- as in 1970 gas lines shortage. IDK?

I have given up "negotiating." I have limited capacity, it's going to the highest bidder. :)

I am literally sitting here considering throwing one of my biggest customers out…. Mostly for being jerks and pushing back on price increases…. Face to face meeting at 4:30 today…. I am trying to stay business like but emotionally I am really pissed off…. Then I try to feel like a prostitute and say I will do it for the money….. I hate these situations

I feel your pain Blue... We have the same issue dealing with the "large national accounts". They won't take an increase that will reduce their margins, so we are supposed to take the hit...

I'll just say this. I haven't shipped to a major auto customer for months as they have been dragging their feet on a fair and reasonable price adjustment that I proposed in November, and needed to put in effect as of Feb. when the metal was ready. It's like they have me on ignore. No clue how they are keeping their lines running or where they are getting parts. I am pretty much done with them. Don't need the aggravation and all the BS that comes with them. We are overloaded with everyone else anyway.

I was told today of a increase of .25 per ft of the stainless steel gutter guard we install. I’ve been begging for my largest project to pre buy the steel during and after Covid. I went to them today, showed them the increase. They think I should eat the cost increase. My answer was I told you to pre buy, warned them when the Covid shortages started there would be an increase. Showed them the emails… they backed off and will cover the cost increase, but still won’t pre buy the amounts needed

I've heard this as well. I filled up the car this morning (87) at $4.19. By lunch time it is $4.39.
I wish. Northern Michigan road fuel was $4.19 yesterday morning. $4.59 four hours later. Marina here in Cheboygan, MI is $5.58 for gas when I looked a couple days ago. Friend in Elk Rapids said they're at $5.99 in that NW Michigan harbor.

Just this past Winter Great Britain had a large surplus of Diesel and had no storage space for it. How in the hell could there be a shortage? Diesel is just one step above bunker fuel. It’s the crap left over from making gas. So does this mean there will be a gas shortage as well?

During Covid consumption dropped, folks worked from home, vacations paused. Demand was very low. Prices dropped like a rock.
It’s time to do that again, without us being told to do it or forced to. Government needs to stay out of the oil business, stop funding them for research, they have plenty of money. Can’t wait to see the public outcry when we get to rationing like the 70’s
