I like to installed a fuel meters to 7.4 MPI 2001 I want to know the amount of fuel I am burning. Upgrading to a new Garmin 1040xs NMEA 2000 and installing Garmin GFS10 fuel sensor. Has any one install them I like some info if its woks on the 7.4 MPI. Any info of how to install on what fuel line. I have the return fuel line to the water/fuel separator fro the fuel pump injector. Can I installed it on the line were it comes out the gas tank to the fuel filter/water separator. TY

I was looking for fuel flow rate too and went with the Fox gateways (one for each engine) and tied them into my NMEA 2K network. The insulation was simple. The data is displays nicely on my Garmin GPSMAP 4012. The gateways work great and they also support BlueTooth communication to Apple devices. So you can view all the data on your iPad.

In addition to Fuel Flow Rate the gateway sends Engine RPM, Coolant Temperature, Alternator/Battery Voltage, Engine Run Hours, and a number of other engine sensor values along with various alarms depending on your ECM's EMFI revision.

There website is fox-marine.com. Checkout there FAQ section for more information.

I had the Garmin set up with the GFS 10’s on my old boat and they worked great, especially for the price.
Very easy to install and once you hook them up to your backbone they integrate seamlessly with the rest of your Garmin system.
The only thing I didn’t like about them is that they are plastic. If you mount them where this is no danger of someone stepping on them in a tight bilge and inspect them regularly you should be fine with them.

Some info what the Fox shows on my 2000 454 Horizons. You can pick which engine shows on your smart phone. You can have the fuel info show on the Garmin. Garmin then calculates how much fuel you used. It will show MPG. How much fuel you have left in your tank. You have to tell the garmin how much you hold and when you add fuel.
