I bought a 1994 SeaRay 170 with a Mercruiser 3.0 a few weeks ago. It had an almost full take of gas andhad sat for about a year. The first time my wife and I took it out it ran perfectly. The second time, we took out 3 adults and 4 kids, it would bog down and start to stall if I gave it gas. I changed out the fuel filters thinking that may be the issue. This past Saturday just two of us same issue it would bog down and stall if I gave it gas. It then quit altother and would not start for hours (we were waiting on a tow). I tried one last time and it started. I was able to get back to the dock in a very slow speed, any increase it would start to stall again. other than the gas has gone bad I cannot think of anything else.

Bad gas and rebuild carbs and you should be fine.

so, so, so many things that could be the cause......the fist thing you will have to do is determine if the problem is fuel related or ignition related....before we get too deep into things, how mechanically inclined are you?......if you are not comfortable working on the engine's ignition system and fuel system you may be better off getting a marine mechanic to look at it....if you are handy and like to work on things then we can start down the long path of troubleshooting the problem....

A simple test would be to disconnect the fuel line from the engine and put it into a fresh gallon of fuel. Start it up and run it a while. If the engine runs any better I'd lean towards the fuel being bad. You still might need to rebuild the carb but at least you'll be on the right track.

There.....Fixed it for you.

There are a lot of shysters running around with a cheap sign on their truck that could cost you a fortune.
