Any tips on swapping out the fuel filters on our 3126's this weekend? Replacing with the Cat brand filters.

DJ,

I open up a "poo pad" and spread it under the filter, turn off my fuel valves, and unscrew the filter - keep a plastic container handy to put the old filter in. Prefill the new filter with clean diesel, and screw it on. Open the fuel valve and start it up. Check for leaks after start.

Same procedure for oil filters. Turn off fuel at tank; ER this is not applicable for oil. Loosen filter then hold bucket over it and thread off into bucket. Wipe filter mount sealing surface clean. Fill new filter with clean fuel and wipe some fuel on the gasket and thread on.

I've found that if I wait 15 minutes after I've pumped out the oil from the engines, I can remove the oil filters without a drop of oil spilling...

there's little pumps next to the filters. you have to unscrew the pump head and then pump fuel into the filter until it's full.

Yea with five hundred strokes and don't forget to turn the little valve 90 degrees. Those pumps are a fuel leaking PITA. I think it best to fill the filter then install. Advance the throttle fully which will set high demand on the rack and crank it up backing the throttle out when she fires up. It'll stumble a bit but recover in short order. Simple and works. Same when changing the Racors.....
